Note: Adding new pages to a file by clicking Layout > Insert Page will add a page with the default single layer. In such a case, all the required layers will have to be added on all pages separately. This could be time consuming.

I would like to create a custom application that has the ability to maintain the items that are on certain Task Pads within POS 2009. These items would all be regular menu items (ex: hamburger, hot dog, french fries, etc) and not functions. For example, if a task pad was supposed to allow the cashier quick access to daily specials, then this custom application would need to be able to clear the task pad each day and add the items for that day. Place the insertion point in the paragraph and choose Restart Numbering from the context menu or choose Type > Bulleted And Numbered Lists > Restart Numbering. In normal lists, this command assigns the number 1 (or letter A) to a paragraph and makes it the first paragraph in a list. In multi-level lists, this command assigns the first lower-level number to a nested paragraph.

The problem with the previous example is that it’s OK since you only need it in one place but if you will have several places where it is used, you now have to qualify the instance of VBA.Collection to each place – not insurmountable but too easy to get messy and hairy very fast.

I am trying to use mailmerge to print tickets. I tried using a column of sequential numbers on a spreadsheet and inserting that as a field into the mailmerge, but oddly, it used number 8 eight times on the first page, number 16 eight times on the second page, etc. So, I tried using a sequencing field as you describe. It worked great for the first page (numbers 1-8) but when I completed the mailmerge, it repeated numbers 1-8 on each successive sheet. What do I have to do to make this work in a mailmerge?

It is very simple to generate a unique Voucher Number, for a document created in EBS modules. The document, also called Categories, can be viewed in the Sequence Assignment window, this window can be found at System Administrator or General Ledger module, provided you have the rights for Defining and Assigning Document Sequence. But before you do, make sure that the profile option Sequential Numbering is set to either Partially Used or Always Used. Personally I haven’t seen much difference in both of options because if you use Always Use, the system won’t let you move forward if there is no sequence assigned to the category and if you use Partially again the system won’t let you move forward.

The only warnings that InDesign gives you that some of the text in the selected text frame uses a different font are: the Font field in the Character panel is blank, and the Font submenu (under the Type menu) has hyphens next to each font.

Thank you for these clear instructions. I have had the same problem as Mommy Vaughan and followed the suggestion. However, on re-opening the Word document, I have the dialogue box Invalid Merge Field. I have to use Task Manager to close down Word. I am using Word 2010. Maybe that is part or all of the problem. Any ideas please? I need to sort this by tomorrow night to print them on Monday!

The fastest way to get numbers into your document is to click the Numbering button on the Formatting toolbar. This button gives you either Word’s default numbering scheme in your document (1, 2, 3) or the last numbering scheme used during this session of Word. Word’s default numbers are Arabic numerals followed by a period.

Just struggled through exactly the same issue. Copy the 1st page onto the second, right click on the each inserted number, and click update field, then select that page, copy and then paste for as many pages as you need. Select all these pages and hit F9, and as if by magic, all the number will fill in.

Close, but not quite what I’m looking for. I need the numbering to advance one number automatically when I open the document; so a unique sequential number can be referenced in the future. My auditors don’t want missing numbers for the voucher that I create. Does this make sense to you?

After struggling with multi-level lists I finally figured out one of the major problems. If you are struggling but you haven’t already read other tutorials, you definitely should, but this tip will be useful no matter what. Before setting or re-setting the list for a given heading, select “None”. Then go back and select the list you want. For some reason if you try to switch directly from one list to another it does horrid things that I do not understand. Hope that helps.

¤  With this method, the Outline property bar might only be visible when the cursor is on the same line as the number. In normal outlines, the Outline property bar will be visible when the cursor is anywhere in an outline level’s text. With this expression we check only for records that are in the same year as the Inquiry date to increment the sequence. Again, the NZ function will automatically restart the sequence with each year. Cleary, though, we cannot generate this number until the InquiryDate has been entered. Is this value is a user entry, then you may want to check that it’s filled in before generating the number.   1. Tip:  Tempting as it is to manually change the numbers in a list, don’t do it. Always use the command options to make the changes. If Word loses track of what you’ve done, problems can pop up when you want to make other list changes later.
    Tip: Normally, the visibility and printability are required to be enabled or disabled together. Remember, a visible layer will not print or export if the printability is disabled and a non-visible layer will print and export if the printability is enabled.
    ☼  You can press to insert a line break; this will start a new unbulleted paragraph under the previous bulleted one (press to resume automatic bulleting). This is a good way to gather several paragraphs under a single bullet item.
    4. With that, your page numbers are added and formatted. Go to any one of your other pages and see how they contain the correct page numbers, and how the page numbers are formatted just as you wanted them to be.
