3. There are a few options for types of characters that you can insert, but the one we want is the Markers option. There you can see the options Current, Next, and Previous Page Number as well as Section Number. Select Current Page Number to place the automatic number you want.

The Fibonacci numbers are the integer sequence whose elements are the sum of the previous two elements. The first two elements are either 0 and 1 or 1 and 1 so that the sequence is (0, 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, sequential numbering …).

◦  If the selected text was previously numbered, the numbers in the selection will be removed and the text will revert to normal body text. Note that the text is no longer part of the Outline’s structure, so to re-establish numbering you will need to select it again and then use the toggle key.

Now repeat for the second and third tickets. But not the fourth, because that’s at the end of the page, so Word will skip to the next number anyway, because the next page always gets the next item in your merge list. Your document should look like this:

CK Note: I strongly advise attaching your numbering levels to styles for all levels at one time. See the articles by John McGhie and Shauna Kelly listed above. McGhie’s article explains the why of this, the Kelly Article gives step-by-step instructions.

A quick way to create a bulleted or numbered list is to type the list, select it, and then click the Bulleted List or Numbered List button in the Control panel. These buttons let you turn the list on or off and switch between bullets and numbers. You can also make bullets and numbering part of a paragraph style and construct lists by assigning styles to paragraphs.

•  This dialog is part of the Outline feature, but unlike the Outline feature it immediately inserts incrementing numbers at the cursor position without having to wait until you type to the end of a block of text and press Enter to increment the next number. (In other words, each number, and any following numbers, increments as soon as you insert it.)

By default, bullets and numbers inherit some of their text formatting from the first character in the paragraph to which they’re attached. If the first character in one paragraph is different from the first characters in other paragraphs, the numbering or bullet character may appear inconsistent with the other list items. If this is not the formatting you desire, create a character style for numbers or bullets and apply it to your list by using the Bullets And Numbering dialog box.

I have done this twice now, getting flustered. The ticket part the person keeps has the correct sequential number on it, but the side that we keep has the same number on it for the whole page. What part am I missing, at first I did not uncheck the box, but this time I did but have the same number on the stub side that we keep with the person’s name, etc

We use the auto page numbering trick here, the trick is to do it as spreads. You just make your pages the same size as the ticket with crops and bleeds. Then set up the shell on the master page and place your auto page number where you want your numbers. Each pages is the next number. You can also have two sets of numbers for perforated ticket. You then can use the page start options to add to the numbers and keep the same number of total numbers. For example you would do a new page start after number 99. 0001 to 0099 so it doesn’t add two “0’s” to the front of 100 and you get 00100 when you want 0100. Works great for small quantities, we have done up to 1000+ tickets and once you do it once or twice it is a snap to set up. To avoid having to do 1000 pages just send the tickets in groups. Usually between 25 to 100 at a time works good depending on artwork file size. Just save each time before sending to printer and name the file with what the tickets are. Like “MyTickets-0001-0100.Indd”. Makes it easier to go back if you have a problem. You can even do two rolls of tickets if your using 12 x 18 sheets by flipping the sheet and doing one row along the top and one along the bottom on reverse side. That is if your ticket is single Sided. Two sided tickets are a bit trickier. 🙂

The way Word has constructed paragraph numbering—a twisted combination of fields and styles—makes it difficult to customize numbering to your preferences and easy to screw up somewhere along the way. If you are going to use Word’s native paragraph numbering, you will want to be armed with basic knowledge and some snafu-busting techniques.1

Scott, I had posted on Microsoft and you sent me to your blog to have the numbering system (similar to APEX example) explained. I am not a programmer and I don’t understand where these codes and expressions are even suppose to go in access. When I do try to implement the little I do know I continue to get errors. I am not sure if I am putting the information in the wrong place or if I am way off. Do you know of any youtube videos that could walk me through it step by step? Or if you have the time could you help walk me through the steps.

Determine what kind of numbering you want to use for your document or book. For long documents, you can assign chapter numbers. Each document can be assigned only one chapter number. If you want to use different numbering within a document, you can define ranges of pages as sections; these sections can be numbered differently. For example, the first ten pages of a document (the front matter) might use Roman numerals, and the rest of the document might use Arabic numerals.

I had the same issue on how to use a sequence of numbers for any kind of usage and ginally today I found the solution. I will demonstrate my steps because it was more complicated (you can sequential numbering the attachement). So, I had to create a solo page for printing in a plotter that should contain 4000 different QRcodes (1000X4) with their number underneath. In my project I use 20 qrcodes in one line to fit about 1m of plotter sticker paper vinyl.

I am having trouble with this procedure. My situation is almost identical to example #2. I want to populate RecordNumber on my form with a date number like “130001, 130002, etc.” where “13” is the year based on a date automatically generated in the OpenDate field in tblLogRecords. OpenDate is a date/time type field that has a default value of the date the record is created and is not editable. I have added a field called Sequence to tblLogRecords and it is a Number, Long Integer type. I also created a bound control for Sequence on my form. I have a completely separate autonumber field as the PK.

Second (and more interesting) is that you can apply text formatting to text frames you’ve selected using the Selection tool or the Direct Selection tool. When you do this, InDesign applies the formatting to all of the text in the text frame, including any overset text. InDesign won’t let you use this method to apply formatting to text frames that are linked to other text frames. Tired of using the Type tool to select and format every photo caption on a page? Use the Selection tool to select them all and apply your formatting—it’s easier, and it’s quicker (see Figure 4-1).

However, what I want it to do now, instead of just putting the number into the attribute value, I want the number to be a suffix to the existing default tag value of the tag named “ID” which is “ADDRESS:” for some blocks and “ELEVATION:” for other blocks but the tag name that the routine always has to filter for is “ID”. That way the user can pick anywhere on the block – not being forced to pick the tag we want to add numbers to.

Learning how to use Print Merge in CorelDRAW can save you incredible amounts of time and money by automating small changes in a print job. Perhaps you are sending out wedding invitations? Rather than manually entering each new person’s name and printing each page out separately, Print Merge allows you to work with just one page, and automatically enter each new name on subsequent pages. Take the automation one step further using the imposition feature to fit more than one print job onto one page. Learning how to use Print Merge is great for projects such as seating cards, invitations, thank you cards or name plates.

I would like to create a custom application that has the ability to maintain the items that are on certain Task Pads within POS 2009. These items would all be regular menu items (ex: hamburger, hot dog, french fries, etc) and not functions. For example, if a task pad was supposed to allow the cashier quick access to daily specials, then this custom application would need to be able to clear the task pad each day and add the items for that day. Is this going to be possible? Please provide some guidance. Thank you, Sean This is a multi-part message in MIME format. ——=_NextPart_00…

Ah sorry about the 6/9 following the 6/4, it’s suppose to be 6/4 and then 6/5. Also, where in InDesign can I make this sequential numbering system? What is the tool name for it? – user94520 May 17 ’17 at 5:26

So? You are storing 2 sequential numbers then. One a number per last initial, the other an overall number. So you are storing those 2 numbers. Those numbers do not change once generated. There is NO need to redundantly store the concatenated full ID.

I\’m new to access with that being said where do I put the code Me.txtSequence = Nz(DMax(“[Sequence]”,”tblInquiry”,”Year([InquiryDate]) = “ & Year(Me.[txtInquiryDate])),0)+1when I try to build an expression code I receive an invalid syntax error message.

I’ve described how to do this using Data Merge a number of times, including in post # 6 at I need to number 20,000 tickets in InDesign and have them in order when I cut them where I describe how to do it for stack-cut imposition without a plugin.

Thanks very much for your prompt reply, which reassured me that I was on the right path. From having read various Help topics, I suspected that I’d have to use an Excel data source for the numbers. Fortunately, my knowledge of Excel was good enough to know about the drag and drop facility to create automatic sequential numbering, so the data source creation was easy. In the end, it was the mail merge (no surprises?) which proved a tad tricky, but I got there in the end. I’ve used MM many times and quite happily in Word documents, but for Publisher label format, it was of course a bit different. The important bit that I had to discover for myself was the significance of, after getting to the Print stage, going into Print options, to Publication & Paper Settings, and selecting Multiple Pages per Sheet (& in my case, also “Single-sided” cos my default of duplex printing had come up). But TA-DA!  All is fine now. Thanks very much again.

For example, you would like to have your first level of numbering to be Bold and Centered. In the previous section, you experienced that when you used Outline Numbering alone, you had to format each paragraph individually to be centered. When you use styles, the centering takes place automatically once you’ve defined the style to be centered.

Thanks for the head start on this, it got me part the way through my problem but I found that when I had 3 figures in a row then a map, the next figure would jump back to #.1 again. Because I had figures, maps and tables that needed to be numbered I used the ‘levels’ to differentiate between them as you suggested, but found if you create a new number list for each entry ie. number list for maps, and number list for tables etc then they don’t conflict. thanks for the start off though. no where else pointed it out as clearly as this. Cheers

Informally, a sequence has a limit if the elements of the sequence become closer and closer to some value L {\displaystyle L} (called the limit of the sequence), and they become and remain arbitrarily close to L {\displaystyle L} , meaning that given a real number d {\displaystyle d} greater than zero, all but a finite number of the elements of the sequence have a distance from L {\displaystyle L} less than d {\displaystyle d} .

See how easy it is to add sequential numbering to Avery products using Avery Design & Print Online at avery.com/print. Great for adding tracking numbers to items like Avery Tickets with Tear-Away Stubs.

Sequential numbering means that each printed piece will have a unique number printed on it within a range (for example 001-251). Sequential numbering may be used for such things as raffle tickets and membership cards.

If you know in advance that you need outline numbering for your paragraphs, you will want to choose the correct format from the Bullets and Numbering dialog box. Applying one of the preset formats to a paragraph or paragraphs that are already bulleted or numbered applies it to the entire list. There is a specific tab for outline numbers — the Outlined Numbered tab.

Enter some text. When you press after entering the text, a new paragraph will be started, as expected, but it will begin with the next number/numeral/letter in the numbering sequence (depending on the Outline level you are in).

Sequence fields are the first method that Word developed for automatic numbering and, in the words of John McGhie, the most robust. They are virtually unbreakable. Here is a link to the Microsoft Office reference page for them in Word 2010. As far as I know, the syntax and the switches have remained unchanged since before Windows.

Creating a sequential list of numbers, in Word, sounds like an intimidating task. Sure, you can create a numbered list quickly enough, but that feature works with additional text – you’re numbering something. If you want a list of just numbers, you have to work a bit harder. Word’s SEQ field might come to mind, but that solution is better suited to template-type numbering. In order words, this field works great if you’re numbering documents, labels, and so on. It doesn’t work so well if you just want to create a list of sequential numbers. You can use it that way, but it’ll be more work than it’s worth.

You are able to customize the numbering scheme at any time: before, during or after you apply it. You can customize all nine heading levels or only the levels you are planning to use. Some fields in the Customize dialog box are the same as the Numbered List Customize dialog box. The fields unique to Outline Numbers are:

Hopefully what this InDesign tutorial will show you is that page numbering in InDesign is just as easy to do as it is any other program, and much easier than in most. InDesign allows for quick, easy, and automatic page numbering, and I’ll be showing you how to do that today. It’s a simple trick to learn, takes only a few short seconds, and will be a skill that you will be thankful for every time you need to use it. You can always refer back to this InDesign tutorial should you forget any of the steps.

•  Start the multiple-choice exam: Click on Format, Columns, and choose 2 columns, and Parallel w/Block Protect. Adjust other options as desired. (You might want to make column 1 narrower than column 2, for example.) Click OK to return to the body text and the new column format.

One thing so far is if I change say 1000 in the first field to 999, I can’t figure out how to get all the other fields to update. I can right click each one individually and choose update field, but that could take for ever once there are a lot of fields.

A defined list can be interrupted by other paragraphs and lists, and can span different stories and different documents in a book. For example, use defined lists to create a multi-level outline, or to create a running list of numbered table names throughout your document. You can also define lists for separately numbered or bulleted items that are mixed together. For example, in a list of questions and answers, define one list for numbering the questions and another for numbering the answers.

These numbers are updated when you sort them with your data. The sequence may be interrupted if you add, move, or delete rows. You can manually update the numbering by selecting two numbers that are in the right sequence, and then dragging the fill handle to the end of the numbered range.

When you insert (or paste) text that contains [Outline][Para Style] codes into the current outline, those codes probably will conflict with the existing outline’s codes (located farther “upstream” from the current paste location).

I’ve been using Word in various incarnations for over 20 years (although I always preferred WordPerfect) and the automatic paragraph numbering was always a weak spot. The extraordinary thing is that it has got worse since 2003 – the bloat really has taken over, and for choice I use Word 2000, although sadly I can’t do that at work. As a result, I have spent the best part of 2 days wrestling with a document that refused to number correctly, until I found your blog. I was on the point of doing them all manually, just to save time. Thank you!

Remember that you must update the values in the sheet if you want to continue the numbering series with the next batch of tickets. For instance, if you want your next batch of tickets to start with 112, you’d open the workbook and change the value 100 to 112, and update the remaining values accordingly. Don’t forget to save the workbook after updating the values.

Can anyone please explain, if it is possible, using Microsoft Publisher office XP, to number a slide show, of still photographs, by “automatic sequential numbering “, rather than numbering each slide individually. Thanks in anticipation !

Your code looks correct. What do you mean by it doesn’t work? When that code is run, txtAlphaCount should show the next number in sequence. You need to explain further. Also where are you putting that line of code?

Using the instructions in #5, add an incrementing SEQ field. You can highlight any of them, except the reset field. For step 7, enter n}. n is the default switch that inserts the next number in the sequence, making it easy to remember. You don’t have to specify the \n switch, because it’s the default, but you can add it if it helps document your choice.

(2) The default Outline numbering style used with this method is the “Paragraph” style (1,a,i). This is the first style shown in Insert, Outline/Bullets & Numbering. As soon as you toggle the feature on, the number, plus an indent, will appear in your document; there is no need to type the number.

Make a FreeForm master of the file without the numbers then use Mail Merge in MS Word along with an Excel file (with your numbers) and create a file with just the numbers and let the Fiery do the rest.

there.. i’ve tried using recording Action but it didn’t help me.. T.T also i don’t have any idea on how to use script, (if i have to use script, can you instruct me on a step-by-step procedure or atleast pinpoint me to a thread that explains it, because the ticket’s deadline is on May 4th, and again i have 12,500 tickets to make)

Open Word and create a new document and create one raffle ticket. You want to make it about the right size so that you can fit four tickets on the page. Leave space for the ticket numbers, which you’ll add in a minute. Something like this:

I’m not sure which version of InDesign first introduced printing Thumbnails like this, but even if yours doesn’t support that, your printer driver may have a similar feature of its own. Check the printer’s own dialog box by clicking “Setup…” near the bottom left corner of the Print dialog and dismissing the warning, then clicking “Preferences…” in Windows’s Print dialog that comes up (I’m not sure how to access this on Mac OS X, but I’m pretty sure there’s an easy way). For instance, on many HP printers, the feature you want is called “Pages per sheet” and has a drop-down offering 1, 2, 4, 9, or 16 pages per sheet.

Hello Nikoforos, welcome to GS.DE and thanks for your answer. Although your answer is very creative, and a good workaround for people who need sequential numbers inside an AI file, it doesn’t really answer the question. Some freeways’ exit number starts from a advanced number (i.e. higher than 1). Some reason of starting a number higher than 1 is due to the expectation that the highway will extends both way. For example, Ontario Highway 400 starts at 20 because it was expected that the highway would extend to downtown Toronto (of which the highway, Spadina Expressway, was never built) It can also be the reason that the freeway is branching off from another freeway.

I get an error with this code but it is something I literally copied from a post in this thread where you said it works every time and simply replaced the names of fields and tables with those of my project.

The Atlantic City-Brigantine Connector in Atlantic City, New Jersey uses letters (without numbers) for its exits; it has many exits in a short distance, and the South Jersey Transportation Authority may have wanted to avoid numbers, as the Atlantic City Expressway’s lowest numbers (mile-based) are in Atlantic City.

Scott, you’ll need to be more specific to help me. When you say “put this code behind a save button” what exactly does that mean – where do I type the code you provided? Yes, I do have a Save Button, which saves the record and closes the form (but currently has no way to save the next sequential Project ID). I want show this next Project ID (number on the entry form) and have that new number flow to the table along with the other data on the form.

Note that this method works only for the level you are currently using for your outline. For example, iIf you are using second-level items (n.n) at that point, you would only type second-level numbers (e.g., “2.1,” “3.1,” etc.). If you need a third-level item, first demote the current two-level item down to a three-level item (n.n.n), then type a third-level item into the dialog (e.g., “3.1.1”). If you don’t demote the item first, WordPerfect will “round up” the current number to conform to the current level’s scheme (e.g., two-level numbers).

I have just started to try something using video in CS6. I have 82 sequential images and I am trying to string them together as a sort of stop motion film (think the intro to the Monkeys). I have done the following:

System generates its own number in a sequence. Like first transaction will have 1 and then second will have 2 and so on and so forth but there are scenarios where more than one person is working on same category and the method of sequence is Automatic then it might have a sequence, I haven’t seen it as yet but it is.

So a long time ago, a (ex)coworker gave me a lisp routine. The command in AutoCAD to access it was SEQ. What it did was, say you have a bunch of text, and you need to change them to sequential numbers. You would type SEQ, and it would ask what number to start with. You typed in the number to start with, and then every time you clicked another piece of text, it would change it to the next number in the sequence.

Using Microsoft PowerPoint’s numerous formatting tools can significantly improve the quality of your business presentation. Sequentially numbered lists can help you more effectively organize the information on a slide. In addition to illustrating the required order of list items, a numbered list can help you visually break up large chunks of information, making it easier for your audience members to identify key points as you speak. Creating a numbered list in PowerPoint requires only a few clicks.

For larger numbers, increase the interval between each sequence http://ringringpromotions.org use that number of pages. What I suggested is based on 34 pages of 6 so the interval is 34. For each additional page of 6 you would increase that interval between the starting numbers by one.

Defined lists are often used to track paragraphs for numbering purposes. When you create a paragraph style for numbering, you can assign the style to a defined list, and paragraphs are numbered in that style according to where they appear in the defined list. The first paragraph to appear is given number 1 (“Table 1”), for example, and the next paragraph is given number 2 (“Table 2”), even if it appears several pages later. Because both paragraphs belong to the same defined list, they can be numbered consecutively no matter how far apart they are in the document or book.

Note 1: It might be better to place this “Outline toggling” button on the main toolbar or on the Outline Tools bar (right-click the toolbar area and select Outline Tools) because the Outline property bar will disappear — and the new button with it — whenever an outline item is converted to normal body text. You won’t be able to use it to turn outlining back on for that item since the Outline property bar will not be visible. But if the button is on the main toolbar or you have made Outline Tools visible, you will have access to this button.

Numbering in Microsoft Word is broken, sort of. It has been for many years. (It is actually better now than it has been.) By attaching it to Styles, you can tame it. This is not fair; it is not easy; but, it isn’t rocket science and it can be done.

These pre-assigned shortcut keys should act as toggles, turning the feature on and off as needed. However, if you find that the feature is not being turned off (or on) using when using the regular Windows keyboard, and you get a “CtrlH macro not found” message, you can either –

If you want to convert automatically numbered or bulleted paragraphs (those with items that begin with a [Para Style][Style] code pair) to their text equivalents (bullets are converted to text symbols), you can select the paragraph items, press to copy the selection, then immediately click Edit, Paste Special, Unformatted text. Note that formatting will be lost in the paragraphs, but this is usually a minor problem to fix.

“how to make consecutive page numbers in word 2013 -sequential numbering in indesign cs5”

In the past, I manually prepared a sheet of labels in Microsoft Word, but this was clumsy and time-consuming. Lately, however, I have used a very easy SEQ script that is already available in the program; I just didn’t know it was there.

I have now permanently “baked” the Inline Counter system into my InDesign defaults. With no documents open, I made a “Counter” CharStyle and a “Zero Footnote” ParStyle, with those crucial zero-level type size attributes, and selected them in the Document Footnote Options. I also added a blank space as a prefix and a period and a blank space as a suffix. Then I made a keyboard shortcut (Ctrl-Alt-F) for the Footnote/Counter. So now Inline Counters can be inserted anywhere and anytime with close to zero efforts.

However, the work is mine. If you use it for commercial purposes or benefit from my efforts through income earned or time saved then a donation, however small, will help to ensure the continued availability of this resource.

I replied to you on the Answers forum. Let’s continue there, but I need to know what you have done and what about is not working. Please reply there with details. But the blog instructions are pretty specific, if you follow them with the only changes substituting your actual field and control names, then it should work.

Word’s numbering feature is easy to use, but it doesn’t work in all situations. For instance, it can’t handle an inline number sequence. By inline, I mean a sequence of numbers positioned within regular text. Fortunately, the SEQ field code handles these situations. I’ll start by showing you how to insert the SEQ field code manually, for those one-time occurrences. If you use this feature often, you’ll want to add AutoCorrect items for quick insertion into your text. So we’ll look at that, too.

An InDesign document can only have one chapter, and these chapters are typically combined in an InDesign book. To insert a chapter number, create a text frame where you want the chapter number to appear on either a document or master page. Click on the “Type” menu, then “Text Variables,” “Insert Text Variable” and then “Chapter Number.” Update the chapter number if necessary to keep your chapter numbers consecutive by clicking on “Numbering & Section Options” in the Layout menu.

it can be done with almost any software that has print merge function (we use corel draw a lot for such http://sl-inworld.com you create a excel file with numbers, and merge them into design. once you learn it it is easy and fast.

Once you are happy with your basic layout, copy everything three times so you have a page of four tickets. At this point, they won’t be numbered tickets just yet, you will add the numbers in a moment:

A defined list can be interrupted by other paragraphs and lists, and can span different stories and different documents in a book. For example, use defined lists to create a multi-level outline, or to create a running list of numbered table names throughout your document. You can also define lists for separately numbered or bulleted items that are mixed together. For example, in a list of questions and answers, define one list for numbering the questions and another for numbering the answers.

I am setting up a template and want my page #s to automatically update when i copy a tab. How is this done? I currently have my “Total Sheets” as a field and that works out fine but often need to add/ remove a sheet to/from drawing and would like the page #s to update.

First, you have to use YOUR field and control names. The ones I use are samples. The error you are getting indicated you do not have a control named txtProject. So you have to substitute the correct name of the control. bound to the ProjectID field. By the way it is not a good idea to the octothorpe(#) as part of a field name. A controlname may be different from a fieldname. The name property of a control is on the Other tab in the Properties dialog.

CK NOTE: Before attempting troubleshooting, read the article listed in the additional reading “Word’s Numbering Explained.” After you read that article, you may also want to look at the following links to some discussions on the Microsoft newsgroups on numbering.

So, once you have those set up (following my instructions exactly), all you have to do to start a new sequence is type 1] for the first item in the list. For each other item, you just type n]. There’s no 2] or 3] involved at all — just 1] and n]. .

Note: This post explains how to handle the numbering when working with chapters in a book file. If you are working with sections within a single file, substitute ^1 for the ^H and start with ^1, ^1.^2, ^1.^2.^3 instead ^H, ^H.^1, ^H.^1.^2.

I’m trying to create vouchers in Publisher with sequential numbers. I’m printing multiple ones per page. However, when I add in insert page number it adds a 1 to all of them. I need to be able to print out 1-24,000. Please help. Thanks.

All I want to know is, how do you link fields, like {SEQ}, to a style – so that if I select/apply style “Figure Caption” (my style, I also have “Table Caption”), I get not just the attributes of the style (what it looks like, where it is on the page etc.) but I get a chapter (or section) number + a sequence number added, (e.g. “2-3”). I know about STYLEREF and SEQ Figure # and/or calling a section number (if required) – but I can’t find out how to take the simple and to me obvious step to have sequential numbering (prefixed with either “Figure” or “Table”) attached to my Figure Caption style. It all seems to be a two-step process: (i) select the style, (ii) select the numbering. I want to do both at style level. I want to see/get (e.g.) “Figure 2-3: Linking figure numbering to styles” just by applying my “Figure Caption” style to my figure caption text “Linking figure numbering to styles”. Please, only tell me how to do that, how to link chapter/sequence numbering via a style – i.e. in just one step – applying the style.

Enabling this will allow you to work on any object despite being active on any of the layers. If disabled, you will have to select and make the layer active to work on the objects on that layer. In other words, all the objects on the layers other than active will be temporarily locked for use.

Define a new list for each type of item you want to number—step-by-step instructions, tables, and figures, for example. By defining multiple lists, you can interrupt one list with another and maintain number sequences in each list.

To create a multi-level list, define the list and then create a paragraph style for each level you want. For example, a list with four levels requires four paragraph styles (each one assigned the same defined list). As you create each style, you define its numbering format and paragraph formatting.

If you start to type in what appears to be a numbered list, Word formats your manually typed “numbers” to an automatic numbered list. The main benefit of this option is that you do not need to click any button to start numbering and you can choose your numbering style as well. For example, if you type “(a) some text” and press Enter, it starts numbering using the “(a)” format.

After the { SEQ € \r68}, insert just the { SEQ € } fields where you need them for the sequential numbering. If you copy and paste one of these fields, you’ll probably need to select in and press F9 to update it, or you could press Ctrl-A, F9 to update all fields in the document – useful if you’ve added/deleted one in an existing sequence or if you’re adding multiple such fields.

Open your Layers window. If it is not already open, open it by going to (Window > Layers). Rename the layer with the placed pdf ‘Background’ and then create a new layer and name it ‘Numbering’. Lock the ‘Background’ layer. Then select the ‘Numbering’ Layer.

Life is too short to spend it on tedious tasks. To learn how the pros work with InDesign, check out Technology for Publishing’s Using Adobe InDesign CC 2018 handbook. It provides great tips and best practices from years of experience helping clients streamline their templates and processes.

The Sequence Field has no switch to change the interval between numbers. It is always the next integer from the last one unless you are restarting the numbering. So, if you want a sequence of odd (1, 3, 5, 7,…) or even (2, 4, 6, 8, …) numbers, how can you generate it using the SEQ field?

When you set the Set Value text box to a number, your list will start with that number; when Restart does not start with 1, it’s best to check and reset the Set Value text box according to the steps above.

Law firms use numbered lists daily to prepare contracts, pleadings, letters and memos. Word makes activating and customizing numbering fairly straightforward. You can create simple numbered lists, such as A, B, C and 1, 2, 3. You can also customize these lists to setup specific numbering styles for your firm and practice group. Multilevel lists such as I, A, 1 are handled through Word’s Outline Numbering feature, which is explained later in this chapter. Many firms rely on outline numbered lists to draw up contracts and pleadings. Like numbered lists, outline numbered lists can be customized.

Hi Scott, I had a question regarding the sequential numbering Apex example…I am looking to automatically restart the sequence every month, which is not a problem using your example (i.e. changing the year to month in the expression). However, I would also like to add in a condition for year, so that the sequence restarts for each month of each year (i.e. my problem is for example that Feb 2011 last sequence number is 5, and then in Feb 2012 this becomes 6, where I would like it to be 1). I am wondering what the syntax would be. Thanks in advance, Lawn.

After importing a table, Thierry notices that the highest ID number used is 24,328. Thierry needs a sequence that will generate numbers starting at 24,329. The following code creates a sequence that starts with 24,329 and increments by 1.

Ok I have a logbook tracking data base. I am trying use a field that has the 8 type of books but each book has its own 4 digit number sequence. I am trying to find a way to give me the next number base on the “prefix”.

•  Next, click in the location where you want the tally number to appear (e.g., just above the paragraph outline). Then click Mark in the Cross Reference dialog to insert the [Ref Para] code. A “?” appears in the document at the cursor location.

I am curently working on a larger projekt, where we sequential numbering aprox. 4500 pcs.of furnituer designed in 4 different kind of families, generic, furnituer, furnituer systems and specialty equipment. We need to be able to asign every  pcs.of funituer a seqventual serial number, we have tried to do this using an extension with a funktion called element positionerning, but we have had no success with this tool, apparently it is taking up to much memory.

Footnotes, after all, are always numbered sequentially and update when you add or remove one. The problem is that each time you add a footnote you get an extra space down at the bottom of the column. The solution? Make a paragraph style for your footnotes that specifies a .1 pt tall size with a 0 (zero) leading, then choose that paragraph style in the Document Footnote Options dialog box.

Microsoft Publisher, the desktop publishing component of the Professional version of the Office Suite, can perform many time-saving tasks for busy business owners, including layout and design work. It can even help you avoid a shopping run to try to find tickets for your next employee picnic, holiday giveaway or executive board meeting. Create your own tickets, including the vital sequential ordering needed for raffles or attendance tracking, using Publisher’s page numbering. With a few tricky manipulations of the page number process, you can start running the numbers in an entirely new fashion.

My page numbers all appear onscreen in my document where they should be, but they do not appear when I print the pages. Am using the same template as I did with a document I prepared a couple of months ago and did not have this problem when I printed all the pages in that document. The master page thing is already a done deal.

I’d like to build the following expression in my query GetStartWeekNumber(DatePart(“ww”,[EnteredDate]), Year([EnteredDate])) So if EnteredDate = 11/3/2009 the function would return 11/1/2009 But GetStartWeekNumber does not exist as an Access Built-In Function. Is there another way to do this as an expression in a query? I’m not familiar with creating my own functions. Thanks. That would depend on how you define the start of the week… One option would be to get the day-of-week number of the date (in my system/setup, Monday is day 2), then subtract one less than that…

I have a job that requires me to make a serial number for each part. There is 480 parts per tray, 2400 parts a week and somehow 19,000 parts a month. So I need to find a way to have a sequence of numbers that increase by one without manually having to input each number each time before a print.

On April 30, 2008, the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration adopted a final rule amending 49 CFR Part 565, “so that the current 17 character vehicle identification number (VIN) system, which has been in place for almost 30 years, can continue in use for at least another 30 years”, in the process making several changes to the VIN requirements applicable to all motor vehicles manufactured for sale in the United States. There are three notable changes to the VIN structure that affect VIN deciphering systems:

Create the sample label so that it has the word Exhibit followed by a merge field that represents the number being pulled from the Excel worksheet. Make sure the label contents are formatted the way you need them.

Just struggled through exactly the same issue. Copy the 1st page onto the second, right click on the each inserted number, and click update field, then select that page, copy and then paste for as many pages as you need. Select all these pages and hit F9, and as if by magic, all the number will fill in.

What if I need to create 200 vouchers and each has a unique code not in any sort of numeric or alphabetical order. The codes are listed in excel under one column. Is there a way to link the text frame on a master page where the codes should be placed to the excel document to assign one code per voucher?

I have several xml files (SMS backup files) I am editing where I want to insert sequential numbering. The number in the id field shown in bold italics below has been replaced with a unique string to allow for a find and replace to be done sequentially giving, e.g. xml a) containing id’s 1 to 25, xml b) containing id’s 26 to 50, xml c) containing id’s 51 to 75 and so on.

In the Mail Merge Recipients dialog, you have the opportunity to customize the list. We want all the numbers (Figure F), so don’t uncheck anything before clicking OK. When applying this method to your own work, remember that you can exclude recipients at this point.

2. In Excel first type a 1 in the top cell and a 2 in the cell below that, than select both cells and grab the very small handle in the bottom right part of cell 2, and then just drag downwards to have Excel fill in the numbers.

You cannot enter a blank space by pressing the spacebar—copy and paste a fixed-width space character from the document window instead. Note that plus (+) or comma (,) symbols cannot be used in section prefixes. (See Insert white space characters.)

Click OK. You should notice that ‘1‘ is inserted into the template. If you have field code shading turned on (Word Options > Advanced > Show Document Content section > Field Shading: Always), it will have a gray background.

The purpose of this arrangement is to keep the line of numbers roughly centered even as the numbers are removed with subsequent printings. This format is shown in the copyright page image accompanying this article.

Chapter numbers cannot be included as a prefix in a generated index or table of contents (such as 1-3, 1-4, and so on). If you want chapter numbers to be included as prefixes, use section prefixes instead of chapter numbers.

The only thing I can think of is to revert the heading back to normal (Alt, H, E) and then reapply the style.  I have my Heading 1 mapped to Ctrl+Shift+1, Heading 2 and Heading 3 for same pattern.  I figure if I need to use Heading 4, I should rethink my document structure…

It sounds like what should be page 63 has been defined as a section start. Does it have a triangle above it? This would be why the numbering format is different. Select that page and go into the Numbering & Section Options and deselect Start Section. This should continue your numbering.

I already created a background image (in EPS format, which is available to Vector Plus members in the download). Select the Rectangle Frame Tool (F) from the tools palette and drag a rectangle onto the page. Then click Command + D and locate the image (in this case an image that you chose to use as a background for the tickets).

To do this, choose Type > Bulleted & Numbered Lists > Define Lists. Click New, and type the name of the list. If you want numbering to restart when in different stories or documents, deselect one of both options, and click OK. When you define the paragraph styles, you’ll reference this list.

Whether you’re prepping for a concert, a school play, a sports event or another show, tickets help you control the crowd and keep track of an audience. Instead of buying generic tear-off tickets from a store, design custom tickets in Microsoft Publisher, the Microsoft Office suite’s desktop-publishing layout and design program. With a couple of quick clicks, you’ll have a way to create tickets in a specific order, which may be “just the ticket” for your event.

I’m struggling with this as well. I tried creating a .txt file of sequential numbers 1-99 from Excel and brought it in as a datamerge. My tickets are 8″x3″, 3-up, but when I did the merge, InDesign added 3,416 pages. Where the Hell is THAT coming from?? Any clue what I’m doing wrong? I’m using a tutorial that is using CS5, but I don’t see how that has anything to do with all those bloody pages.

While your cursor is in either normal body text or in a new document, click on Tools, QuickCorrect, Format-as-you-Go tab, and enable (tick) the QuickBullets option in the Format-As-You-Go list. (See image above.)

Press Ctrl+V for each additional row of labels you want. You want enough rows of labels to meet your entire needs. Thus, if you need a total of 125 labels, and you can get 3 labels per line, you should end up with 42 rows of labels.

Select None from the Underline drop-down list. There is a big difference in leaving something blank and choosing None. Blank means that it will follow the formatting of the text. None ensures that the number will never be underlined regardless of text formatting.

Now I have another problem. This code worked perfectly up to ten records. When I tried to add the eleventh record, the Sequence field won’t add any more numbers. It’s stuck at 10. This of course causes my RecordNumber field, which displays as

You cannot specify when a section ends. Rather, sections always continue until the next section starts. Each section can have entirely unique page numbering. It can be based on the section that preceded it, or it can arbitrarily start at any number you choose.

Note that the list name remains the same for all of these tags. Table titles have a level 4 designation, and Figure titles have a level 5. The numbering style calls out the level 4 numbers (^4) on the Table titles, and the level 5 numbers (^5) for the Figure titles. It’s important to note that for this style, both of these restart after the level 3s (Subhead 2s).

Unlike other Microsoft Office programs, Excel does not provide a button to number data automatically. But, you can easily add sequential numbers to rows of data by dragging the fill handle to fill a column with a series of numbers or by using the ROW function.

The geometric sequence works differently – the number in the From field is multiplied by the Ratio field and then the next number in sequence is multiplied by the ratio field. For example, if the From number is 1, the To number is 4000 and the Ratio is 2, then the number sequence generated is 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, http://thedailyrant.net 256, 512, 1024, 2048.

In mathematics, a sequence is an enumerated collection of objects in which repetitions are allowed. Like a set, it contains members (also called elements, or terms). The number of elements (possibly infinite) is called the length of the sequence. Unlike a set, order matters, and exactly the same elements can appear multiple times at different positions in the sequence. Formally, a sequence can be defined as a function whose domain is either the set of the natural numbers (for infinite sequences) or the set of the first n natural numbers (for a sequence of finite length n). The position of an element in a sequence is its rank or index; it is the integer from which the element is the image. It depends on the context or of a specific convention, if the first element has index 0 or 1. When a symbol has been chosen for denoting a sequence, the nth element of the sequence is denoted by this symbol with n as subscript; for example, the nth element of the Fibonacci sequence is generally denoted Fn.

Number Pro is an easy application that lets you create a data file that easily integrates with InDesign, Corel Draw, Microsoft  Word, and Publisher. Raffle ticket numbering, multi-part forms, documents etc., using the data merge or mail merge aspects of these various software applications. Number with ease and print on your home or office printer.

To clear up one point , my project involves scanning still photos and getting them onto DVD’s as a slide show, with transitions and background music, hence my referring to them as slides and not pages.

Zoom into the tickets where you have placed the text for the numbering and click on the data merge palette. This should be open already since we already called in the data file in Step 11. Place the text cursor behind the last letter of your text. Then click on the text data file (100.txt) in the Data Merge Palette.
