IF a document is part of a book and the previous document ended on a right-hand page, AND if your book options are set to allow documents to start on left or right pages, AND if you choose “Automatic Page Numbering,” THEN the document will be allowed to automatically start on the left page. This is great if you need to break a document up in a spot where it’s not necessary for the next document to start on the right.
Despite its difficulties and drawbacks Word’s automatic numbering can be harnessed. The best method I have seen for doing that is with outline numbering as explained by MVP Shauna Kelly in: Outline numbering in Microsoft Word. This takes a good bit of work to get it set-up, but if you get it set up in a template it is well worth the effort and most of your automatic paragraph numbering issues will be resolved.
I have a cell which has a basic formula in (adding up from 2 other cells) This number can end up being a minus number (-167), If this happens I need to be able to make that minus number appear as a zero (0). Is this possible? please help. =IF(A1+B1<0,0,A1+B1) Alternative =MAX(0,A1+B1) Gord Dibben Excel MVP On Sat, 7 May 2005 08:28:03 -0700, "marcus1066"
Note: The add-in and illustrations shown in this tips page are created using Word 2003. The add-in is fully functional using Word 2007 through 2016. The toolbar shown below propogates on the ribbon Add-Ins tab.
If you’re a self-taught InDesign user, you may not have been introduced to automatic page numbering, one of the biggest time-saving features in the program. InDesign allows you to set up the page numbering feature in your Master Pages. Then, as you add or shuffle pages, InDesign updates individual page numbers accordingly. You can style the page number any way you like.
Do you know how a amend the style/baseline when to autopages. Currently it just keeps it all on the same line. So cna only think of having to add in the pages numbers by hand which I would like to avoid.
The final scenario is very similar to Scenario 2. The two main differences are in the criteria of the DMax and the expression to display the identifier. The document table already has two fields to identify a
The fact that the AutoCorrect is putting in N] http://thedailyrant.net that steps 7 to 10 of the ‘Create the AutoCorrect entries for the fields’ wasn’t done correctly. Unfortunately, this is computer-specific, so even if you sent me the document, I couldn’t check your AutoCorrect entries.
Let’s move on to the Subhead 1 style. Note the same list name (FM Numbering), the level designation (now it’s a 2), the number (^H.^2.^t) and that restart numbers at this level is on after any previous level.
To recap, you use a DMax function to return the highest number in the Sequence and increment it by 1. You assign the incremented number to a control on your form and then immediately save the record. If your identifier includes additional information from the record, you use an expression that concatenates that information with the sequence number to display the full identifier.
I have designed and printed a BLURB book in LR4 beta successfully. Although the color was somewhat streaked and blotchy, it wasn’t a bad effort, but it does need refinements. How I might add page numbers? Without page numbering, making a book greater than a few pages is not really acceptable.
The auto-indenting feature of bullets and lists has always frustrated me. EVERY time you apply a numbered or bulleted list, you’ve got to set the indents. I want my lists to be indented at the very left of the page, flush with the rest of the paragraphs. But no, Microsoft insists that you want them indented by 0.63cm and hanging at 1.27cm (WHY 0.63? Why not 0.7? Or 1.0cm? But that’s a question for a different session.) (I know, it’s because MS is American and still uses inches etc…)
What is the name of the template wizard with Data Tracking (Excel. I can not locate the add in template wizard with Data Tracking in Office 2003 Hi Richard You are not the only one
This works well unless you’re trying to add these fields to text boxes. In Word 2013 it seems like it may work for a text box or two, but then decides to start the numbering over. Is there a way to get this to work with multiple text boxes?
Create the sample label so that it has the word Exhibit followed by a merge field that represents the number being pulled from the Excel worksheet. Make sure the label contents are formatted the way you need them.
In areas that use the metric system, distance-based numbers are by kilometer rather than mile. A few highways, such as Delaware Route 1 and Interstate 19, have been renumbered from miles to kilometers, even in areas that typically use miles.
Thank you very much for your information. It was quick and easy to follow, and gave me the results I needed. I’ve wrestle with this subject about once a year, and have to look for instructions each time. Your instruction set was the easiest to follow, and it works.
It may be convenient to have the sequence start with an index different from 1 or 0. For example, the sequence defined by xn = 1/log(n) would be defined only for n ≥ 2. When talking about such infinite sequences, it is usually sufficient (and does not change much for most considerations) to assume that the members of the sequence are defined at least for all indices large enough, that is, greater than some given N.
Changing the numbering display affects how pages are indicated in the InDesign document, as in the Pages panel and in the page box at the bottom of a document window. The numbering display also affects how you specify page ranges when printing and exporting the document. However, the numbering display does not change the appearance of page numbers on document pages.
Numbering & Section Options dialog shown next to the Pages Panel. Notice that the document is divided into three sections, the middle section using lowercase Roman numerals and an alternate master page.
One consistent element of the VIS is the 10th digit, which is required worldwide to encode the model year of the vehicle. Besides the three letters that are not allowed in the VIN itself (I, O and Q), the letters U and Z and the digit 0 are not used for the model year code. The year code is the model year for the vehicle.
If you know in advance that you need outline numbering for your paragraphs, you will want to choose the correct format from the Bullets and Numbering dialog box. Applying one of the preset formats to a paragraph or paragraphs that are already bulleted or numbered applies it to the entire list. There is a specific tab for outline numbers — the Outlined Numbered tab.
For an example, a new sequence is created with a starting value of 1 and a cache size of 15. When the first value is needed, values 1 through 15 are made available from memory. The last cached value (15) is written to the system tables on the disk. When all 15 numbers are used, the next request (for number 16) will cause the cache to be allocated again. The new last cached value (30) will be written to the system tables.
See how easy it is to add sequential numbering to Avery products using Avery Design & Print Online at avery.com/print. Great for adding tracking numbers to items like Avery Tickets with Tear-Away Stubs.
This chapter (web page) takes you through how numbering is supposed to work in Word and the various controls. It is useful, but primarily on SEQ fields and simple numbered lists and also as reference showing the menus, dialogs and controls and going through the concepts for outline numbering. To actually set up outline numbering that works, refer to the Kelly and McGhie articles.
In addition, a layer can be set to visible but non printable to use it to keep the job notes with the file. I use such layer to keep the print details and other job information which can be referred to any time.
Sequences whose elements are related to the previous elements in a straightforward way are often defined using recursion. This is in contrast to the definition of sequence elements as a function of their position.
Apply the heading style to headings, and make any adjustments. For example, you may want to specify a different Next Style (such as Body) for the heading styles so that when you press Enter after typing the heading, the Body style is automatically applied to the next paragraph.Tip: In Part I, I mentioned that if you need to restart numbering within the same story, you should create a paragraph style identical to the Level 1 style, only with the numbering starting at 1. Depending on your layout, there may be a better way. If another style will always appear between the lists (such as “step heading”), specify that style as the level 1 style, and choose None for Numbering Style Format.Next, I’ll write about creating lists of figures or tables.
I haven’t tried this… But according to the Microsoft instructions about field switches (http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/word-help/insert-and-format-field-codes-HA010338798.aspx), you can add text to a field code. The text must be in single quote marks, and displays as a constant for the field. The examples on that web page show the text at the end of the field, but you could try it earlier in the field by testing putting ‘120/’ in front of where the SEQ number will go.
