You saved my life! I work at a School Board with 200+ schools and 100+ departments and I have to number every ticket I make. Football, Baseball, Raffles, Prom, Graduation… the list goes on. The worse part is each is different and has to have x number in this color that color it can be very frustrating. Then to top it off I have the most random number of requested tickets sometimes and it was extremely difficult to find a method that worked and yours did! Like a charm! I can choose how many zero how many out I need and if there are special versions I can separate them too! Thank you, I was just about to run screaming from the building!

Would you like to print tickets, labels, lottery tickets,… with serial numbers. It’s easy NOW ! With this program and Corel Draw you can print everything ! Create a new document in Word and type in the basic information that you need on your raffle tickets. The event you are raising money for, the price of the ticket, the date of the draw and the prizes that are on offer. Depending on your local laws, you might also need to include a licence number and contact name on each ticket.

In the tutorials, Jeff wishes that there was a way to create the numbers in reverse order. The author of Numbergen has already updated the software to give Jeff his wish. We have added a link to download the utility as well as to watch the tutorials to the main tutorial page.

If you place multiple frames on one page and apply the same numbering style, InDesign will http://ringringpromotions.org not be placement but order of creation. That is the reason why I get this weird order on the picture above.

Note: If you have already created a business information set, your business contact information and logo automatically replaces some of the placeholder text. For more information, see Create, change, or remove business information data.

(If you prefer using the keyboard, rather than the mouse, then do this instead of dragging down: select cell A3, hit CTRL+C (or cmd+C on a Mac) to copy, then select cell A4 and use SHIFT+fn+down arrow to select all the way down to row 501. Then hit CTRL+V (or cmd+V on a Mac) to paste.)

GREAT tip with lots of uses! Thank you. This will save me hours of work on some tickets I’m designing. However, I also need to set up table tents that have numbers on them. They’re 2-up, and are folded, so each number needs to appear twice on the same page. In short, I want a page with 1/1 and 2/2, and I’m getting 1/2 and 3/4. Am I missing an obvious fix? Thank you.

Easy to fix. Close the new document which Word just created (don’t bother to save it). Go back to your main template document and just move the placeholder further to the right. It’ll look odd, because the placeholders take up more space than the real numbers, so the layout looks messed up. Something like this:

The raffle ticket paper is pre-numbered and pre-perfed and is available in two different sizes (Large Tickets – 2 3/4″ x 8 1/2″, Small Tickets – 2 1/8″ x 5 1/2″) with 20 different paper colors for each size.

Grocery stores: A folding table and a couple of colorful posters are all you need to set up an attractive display outside of a grocery store or supermarket. People are going inside to shop, so they have money.

Thank you for your reply.  It reassured me that I was on the right path. From having read other Help texts, I guessed that I would have to use good ole mail-merge and set up a numbers list in Excel. Luckily my knowledge of Excel was good enough to know about the drag&drop for sequential immediate numbering. When it came to the crunch, it was this particular type of mail merge which gave me a bit of initial difficulty. Despite my having used it happily and often in Word, for labels in Publisher, it was – not surprisingly – different in certain respects; principally the crucial point of the Print stage, which necessitated finding the option Publications & Paper Settings, and selecting 2 specific parameters, namely (1) Multiple pages per sheet,  (2) Single-sided printing (my default double printing had appeared). Once I’d sussed this, it was plain sailing.  Thanks again.

To make your raffle give-away as easy as possible, consider the 50/50 raffle, where 50% of the proceeds generated from ticket sales goes to the drawn winner of the raffle, and 50% goes to the organization raising the funds. Besides being easy to award the prize, it also eliminates the hassle of securing merchandise.

Choose the option “Microsoft Office Word Help.” An assistance box will populate to the right of your document window. In the box labeled “Search for” type “Create numbered tickets” and click the green arrow. The Help function will search and provide a list of options within that area.

We also want to setup right away the crop marks for the tickets. Create another layer and call it “crop marks & score marks.” We will place the crop marks and the score line onto this layer. Start placing crop marks that you create with the Pen Tool (P) around the ticket.

I don’t want to have to data entry to finish each line. Will take forever. Is there a way to get a same, same format in microsoft word. I have used a sequence number generator to get a list. Its the comma and second duplicate # that is the problem.

My tickets only printed two per page, in the first and third spits of the letter sized page. They did print properly/sequentially ordered however. Any suggestions as to how to get four tickets per page?

Understood. What I have been working on is a mailmerge. What it does is you have 3 documents, the ticket template, the list of numbers wanted. Then when you merge them, the raffle ticket shows on each ticket, all with different numbers.

I to, have read through your directions while using both mac & pc platforms. I fail to find the “standard features” screen shots that you show above in either program. I too have spent several hours trying to get the sequential 3-up numbering as described. In trying to produce 300 tickets, I can get all of the first numbered position to be sequential over 100 pages. But, when moving down to the second or third ticket position on the page and setting up the numbering, I repeatedly find that I get a repeat of the first 100 numbers. I am lost as to how to proceed. Is there any other missing step or info that I am assumed to have knowledge about that was not mentioned above? If you know of some other site that might explain this process any better, please post. Thanks for your help.

Do that again after the number on the third ticket on your page, BUT NOT THE FINAL TICKET ON THE PAGE. Because the final ticket is at the end of the page, and the number will increment automatically at the end of a page. If you put a ‘Next’ field there too, you’ll jump two numbers.

The SEQ or Sequential Numbering Function in Word is the best and quickest way to number your tickets. Many raffle ticket templates use them, yet few sites explain how it works. To see if it uses the SEQ function, you need to download the template first. Then, open it in Word, click right in the middle of where a serial number is, and then right-click.

Click Print Preview to check the settings. (Publisher 2010 and 2013 does this automatically.) The ticket numbers should increase by one (Figure K) as they do in the Excel sheet. Publisher will generate enough pages to accommodate your entire list of values in Excel.

I already created a background image (in EPS format, which is available to Vector Plus members in the download). Select the Rectangle Frame Tool (F) from the tools palette and drag a rectangle onto the page. Then click Command + D and locate the image (in this case an image that you chose to use as a background for the tickets).

You simply add more! It’s very simple in Excel. Go to the end of the file where you see the 10,000th number. All you have to do is highlight the 10,000th number and 1 or 2 rows above it. Then you click on the bottom right corner (where the square is) of the 10,000th number cell and simply drag it down until you reach your desired number. You should see it increasing each number by 1 as you scroll down. Once you let go of the mouse, the numbers will be placed in the cells.

That sounds like a great feature request, Klaus! You should definitely ask Adobe for that. I think there are a lot more things Adobe could do with variable text — inline auto numbering would be a good example.

Special requests may be written in the “Additional Instructions” window. We will honor, to the best degree possible, any special instructions. However, they may add time to production. It is best to send an email describing a special request rather than just put it on the order and expect that we will just do as requested.

Summary: Templates are a great way to create new documents because they act as intricate patterns to what those new documents should contain. What if you want the new documents to include some sort of automatically incrementing number? This tip looks at ways you can accomplish the task. I’ve described how to do this using Data Merge a number of times, including in post # 6 at I need to number 20,000 tickets in InDesign and have them in order when I cut them where I describe how to do it for stack-cut imposition without a plugin.

A very common usage for the Print Merge function in CorelDRAW is for adding numbers to tickets or invoices. Unfortunately it can be a bit of a hassle to create the list of numbers. When you have multiple tickets on a single printed sheet, it becomes even more complex as you want each stack of tickets to be in numerical order.

In the Mail Merge task pane, in the list under Prepare your publication, locate the field name that corresponds to the column heading for the list of tracking numbers in your data source. For example, if you used Tracking Number as the column heading for the list of tracking numbers in your spreadsheet, locate Tracking Number. Drag the tracking number field into the text box that you created for it.

Repeat this for each place where you need the ticket number to appear on your raffle ticket template. Most likely, you’ll need it on each counterfoil and each main ticket, so eight in total, like this:

Creating numbered tickets in Word can seem difficult or even impossible if you are not familiar with all the capabilities of the Word program. If you have tried going to the Word template section and have been unsuccessful or frustrated with all the options and questions, there is an easier way. The simplest resolution for creating numbered tickets is to find existing templates that can be edited and adjusted to fit your needs.

Neighborhood businesses: The shops and stores in your own community are great places to start selling your raffle tickets. These are locales you frequent, where you know the owners and are able talk to them while you’re there. The more familiar you are to them, the more likely they’ll support your fundraising efforts and will be willing provide a selling spot for you.

Remember that you must update the values in the sheet if you want to continue the numbering series with the next batch of tickets. For instance, if you want your next batch of tickets to start with 112, you’d open the workbook and change the value 100 to 112, and update the remaining values accordingly. Don’t forget to save the workbook after updating the values.

You probably know about Word’s mail merge feature, and you might even use it to print labels or other documents, where some of the information changes (such as form letters). You can use the same feature with Publisher. Although you might not think of Publisher as an Office app, it comes with several different versions of Office. In this article, I’ll show you how to print sequentially numbered tickets using Publisher and Excel. This article provides instructions for Publisher 2007, 2010, and 2013.

Thanks I have my word ticket page set up with the code you gave me. Thank you in advance. I need to set up the mail merge so I can print blocks of tickets off as I need them. How do I go about setting this up? Do I have to have a stub, ticket format like the original ticket format?

At this point of time, do not forget to bring up to date the series of numbers of tickets already copied. This can be achieved by just highlighting the number and hitting on the right side of the mouse. The word document will let down a drop-down menu that will provide you all the necessary options to revise and keep up to date the field.

First, create a numbering “list” by choosing Type > Bulleted & Numbered Lists > Define Lists. Then click New to create a new list. You can name it anything you want, but make sure the Continued Numbers across Stories is enabled:

At this point, you’re ready to load your card stock into the printer and print the tickets. I recommend that you preview the print job before sending it to the printer to make sure everything’s in order. To print the tickets, do the following:

You have 2 options depending on your needs. If your background image is the full 8 1/2″ x 11″ size, then you can simply go to Format>Background>Fill Effects (this may be different on newer versions of Word). This will insert an image behind the entire document. When printing, you will need to make sure the background printing checkbox is ticked. If you need to insert an image into each box, you will then need to use text boxes with no fill to place text over the images.

The blog is pretty much step by step. Where it may not be that specific is, because, these are decisions the developer needs to make. Our raffle ticket templates have a placeholder for a ticket number, usually “xxx” to remind you it needs to be replaced. Select it, click Insert Merge Field > Ticket. Do the same for the second ticket number placeholder. Most tickets will have two number placeholders because one part of the ticket is for the raffle host (you) and the other is for the purchaser.

I am printing many pages of tickets. Each page has 5 tickets and I would like to sequentially put a number on each ticket. I have tried to use the auto page numbering feature but that is putting the same number on each of the 5 tickets and then increments for the next page — not what I need. Also, can the numbering not suppress the leading zeroes? Thanks.

I was researching this a lot today, we use a program called Number Machine but it has its drawbacks. Basically I have to convert any PDF of a ticket layout to a TIFF then place that as a background… it works… for smaller runs.

I also use printer bench pro…we do 12 coupons up on 11×17, and print the background into a variable data master file and then select this master when printing out of PBP and its easy cheezy….now if they would just write the software for a mac

The script sets the numbering of multiple gang up tickets so that after cutting the tickets do not need recollating to put back into order (like the CS2 script) but also does counterfoil numbers, prefixes, suffixes, leading zeros and output of pages in reverse order for ‘face up’ printing.

Am looking for a template for a raffle ticket – preferably with a tear off stub on one end. Any ideas? Thanks! Raffle tickets are easy to make. Decide what size, input the information. Am I the only individual here who is using CS3, and trying the method described, only to find that my version (5.0.2) for the mac doesn’t have the options anywhere that the author suggests? I have spent the past 2 hours trying to find the same screenshots the author has, only to become reall discouraged. Perhaps he is using a windows version that is setup differently?

is that it does number properly. If you select ‘8 up’ the number file created is suitable to text merge into InDesign so that after cutting the eight stacks of tickets can be effectively placed one upon each other and the numbering holds.

How to perform a Print Merge in CorelDRAW X4. This also shows how to create sequential numbering for tickets. If you do not yet own CorelDRAW X4, try a trial version free @ http://www.corel.com/coreldraw

The four templates with automatic serial numbering are quite nice and one of them will most likely be suitable for your needs. You can edit them as well. If you’re going to do that, save the original template separately. Doing so will give you a fresh template, in case you need one.

I think the conclusion of all these Rube Goldberg approaches is that InDesign still isn’t ready for handling what is really a head-smacking-stupid-simple kind of numbering job — the kind of jobs computers were created for in the first place. My DOS word processor XyWrite — from AD 1987! — could do numbering stuff like this in no time and with no trouble. Quite ridiculous, really, when you consider the staggering graphics and typography capabilities inside InDesign — but the poor thing cannot really count.

I found many months ago, a template for Publisher, to produce raffle tickets. I am unable to find it anymore and wondered if anyone could direct me as to where to find something like this again. Bob …

It depends what the design is for the tickets. But if you set up primary text frames, linked for the area for the numbers, you can create a numbered list with the numbering format you want. Then, just pour in a whole load of paragraph returns that have that numbered list applied. And make sure each numbered paragraph is set to start in the next column.

Note: Keep in mind that what you are saving is not the set of coupons or gift certificates that you have printed. Rather, you are saving the publication with its connection to your data source and its placeholder fields. By saving the publication, you can quickly create another set of coupons or gift certificates when the need arises. The publication maintains the link to the data source that you connected it to so that you can jump ahead to the previewing step.

Your finished file can then be printed on most inkjet or laser printers. After printing you can easily separate the tickets which are micro-perforated or hand out to team members to sell by the sheet or let them separate the raffle tickets as they are sold.

wow, what a relief to find these solutions! I had to gang 250 stickers on a single page and number them sequentially (so, page numbering and master page solutions wouldn’t work). The tips for Indd ‘numbered lists’ worked like a charm, even tho I’m in CS5. This was a lifesaver; MANY thanks!

I need to change text in pre set lines to accommodate 4 prizes. How do I change it so that it will show on all tickets? Are you using a template? How many tickets are there per page? Are you using a merge? If you are using a merge and you have one ticket on your screen, changing the prize entries should change the prize entries on all the tickets. Yes, it is a pain to reprint one or two sheets if you have closed the file. I’ve learned to leave the file open on the desktop until the tickets are finished. This way if the perf, or cutter messes up I can easily reprint those ticket numbers without re-aligning the art & numbering.

You can request us to change the stub ie, instead of Name, Address and Phone ADMIT ONE, name and date of your event. (This is helpful if you are pre-selling your tickets because your seller can retain the stub portion for record keeping. If you prefer no stub, place your order and select “tickets with no stub”. In either case, your proof will show a standard stub but your Admission Tickets will either have no stub or one with the information you requested.

Numbering raffle tickets can be a rough project to tackle without the right tools. Luckily you can number raffle tickets or any other document or form with a desktop publishing software program you may already own like Microsoft Word, Publisher, Adobe Indesign or CorelDraw or any desktop publishing software that has a mail merge function.  Then all that is needed is a program that can create the mail merge file you need to number your tickets like starting number, ending number, prefix and so on. And for that program we suggest Number-Pro.

@Andy: I’m sorry that I sounded dismissive. That wasn’t my intent. Rather, I was just admitting that I had no idea why someone using CS3 would not see the dialog boxes as they are shown above. If you’re using CS2, they would be significantly different. But the second part of the tip (where I show the numbering dialog boxes) relies on CS3 or later. If you are using CS3 or CS4 and you don’t see that dialog box, feel free to email me at david [at] indesignsecrets [dot] com and send me a screen shot of what you are seeing.

I’m not sure what you’re doing – the ‘/’ should be ‘\’ and the very first ticket # should not have the ‘\c’. See the attached. It has the FILLIN field in the first SEQ field as described in my previous post. Simply press Ctrl-A, then F9, input a starting # and all the tickets will update.

After much manipulation, it appears this template is not really designed for raffle tickets. More of an event ticket. Please see the attached example. I would like to know, if you are open to other templates made specifically for raffle tickets?

I use a little program called “Number It” I purchased on E-bay a couple of years ago. It will print the ticket (from bmp file) and number on the Canon 3200 in one pass. BW or Color. Nice little program and well worth the $50-80 price.

I answer readers’ questions about Microsoft Office when I can, but there’s no guarantee. When contacting me, be as specific as possible. For example, “Please troubleshoot my workbook and fix what’s wrong” probably won’t get a response, but “Can you tell me why this formula isn’t returning the expected results?” might. Please mention the app and version that you’re using. I’m not reimbursed by TechRepublic for my time or expertise, nor do I ask for a fee from readers. You can contact me at susansalesharkins@gmail.com.

Unfortunately, I think you will have to go back and start over. The starting template page is what determines how your entire document will look, so you really need to have that setup first. If you have a basic design already setup, you can just copy that over to the new format and then add the mail merge numbers back into the document. That would probably be the easiest way to approach it.

5. Currently you can pull the default number “1” which Microsoft Publisher shows and put it on your ticket. Don’t forget to hit on the OK tab which makes the publisher to update the event ticket number without any errors.

Click that, and a placeholder will appear where your cursor was, which will later insert the ticket number at that point. Do that twice for each ticket (once for the counterfoil, once for the main ticket). You should end up with something like this:

Hello – I want to be able to print the User Defined 1 field from the SOP document’s SHIP TO address on the picking ticket. I can’t seem to get to this particular user defined field. Any suggestions? Thanks, Tracey …

I am trying to create raffle tickets, 4 on a page with only a number on the stub. My problem is when I get to the print preview and change it to “multiple pages per sheet” it is just changing the number on the next page and not on the next ticket. I followed all the directions on adding the number to each ticket from the merge document (of course all the step by step information I can find is only for 2007 and NOT 2013 so guessing there is something wrong with what I am doing).  When I go into the print screen it is also changing my paper from 8 1/2 x 11 to 11 x 17 and putting 8 on the page.

After you set up your list of tracking numbers in the data source and design your publication, you are ready to merge your list of tracking numbers with your publication to create a batch of gift certificates or coupons that each displays a unique tracking number.

Repeat this for each place where you need the ticket number to appear on your raffle ticket template. Most likely, you’ll need it on each counterfoil and each main ticket, so eight in total, like this:

Once you are happy with your basic layout, copy everything three times so you have a page of four tickets. At this point, they won’t be numbered tickets just yet, you will add the numbers in a moment:

I am creating an event ticket but would like to number the tickets on both the left and right sides of the ticket. Create a data base with your numbers. Use mail merge for the tickets. Despite my having used it happily and often in Word, for labels in Publisher, it was – not surprisingly http://ringringpromotions.org different in certain respects; principally the crucial point of the Print stage, which necessitated finding the option Publications & Paper Settings, and selecting 2 specific parameters, namely (1) Multiple pages per sheet,  (2) Single-sided printing (my default double printing had appeared). Once I’d sussed this, it was plain sailing.  Thanks again.

Layout your ticket in InDesign, one on each page, using the Page Number function to number the tickets. If you have something like Imposer Pro (I know it doesn’t work from InDesign CS3) you can, for instance, impose the pages 4up consecutive and get 4 tickets on an A4. Alternatively, make a PDF of the whole document and impose (manually, if you have to), the advantage here is that this can work as a template for other tickets, simply make a new PDF of the same size and update the PDF in the template document every time you have a new raffle ticket to do.

2. Scroll through the ticket templates, such as single-event tickets, raffle tickets and tour tickets. Click the ‘Download’ button for the ticket type you want. The template opens in the Word workspace.

You are able to customize the numbering scheme at any time: before, during or after you apply it. You can customize all nine heading levels or only the levels you are planning to use. Some fields in the Customize dialog box are the same as the Numbered List Customize dialog box. The fields unique to Outline Numbers are:

With a few tricky manipulations of the page number process, you can start running the numbers in an entirely new fashion.

In Excel, I created a file with columns A-H labeled: ticket 1, stub 1; ticket2, stub2; ticket3, stub3; ticket4, stub4. I then numbered two rows across 1 -4, then 5 -8. Then I dropped down to A – H in row 260. (I did this to give 1,000+ numbered tickets.) I then used the Excel fill function chosing series and told the program to skip by 4. It filled the rows. I then saved as a tab delimited text file.

Summary: Templates are a great way to create new documents because they act as intricate patterns to what those new documents should contain. What if you want the new documents to include some sort of automatically incrementing number? This tip looks at ways you can accomplish the task. (This tip works with Microsoft Word 97, Word 2000, Word 2002, Word 2003, and Word 2007.)

Microsoft Word includes fields that enable customized data insertion, including Word Count, Page Count and Sequence, which is used to create incremental counters. You can create a business plan using numbered content such as headings or paragraphs, or a simple table with numbered row blocks using the “SEQ” field name.

An awesome new feature to has been introduced to Microsoft Publisher 2010 is the ability to use Data Sources to create “Catalogue Pages”. This is like a Mail Merge for design documents. Now, I would have to agree that Publisher isn’t the best graphic design program in the market. But it’s certainly adequate for simple ticket designs — for example, for a school social. Let’s say we want each ticket to have a unique number and an inspiration quote. This is all possible through Publisher and a data source, e.g. an Excel Spreadsheet.

Update the sequence of numbers of copied tickets by highlighting the number and clicking on the right button of your mouse. A drop-down menu will give you the option to update the field and the system will automatically update the number in sequence. Each ticket must be individually updated before printing.

If you’re raising money for a sports organization, choose a template featuring sporty images. LIkewise, a template with musical notes on it fits in well for a band-related fundraiser. However, if you need a basic template that works for any function, we have simple designs that fit any general need.

It’s also a good idea to create your print file with more Tickets (more Books) than you initially think you’ll need. You can then easily print more Tickets if needed later, without having to re-create the print file with extra Books.

A free ticket template for a combination 50/50 and prize raffle, with a automotive/travel theme. Screened in gray background of a highway with a sporty red car in the corner. The car can be easily swapped for another vehicle.

You have 2 options depending on your needs. If your background image is the full 8 1/2″ x 11″ size, then you can simply go to Format>Background>Fill Effects (this may be different on newer versions http://sl-inworld.com Word). This will insert an image behind the entire document. When printing, you will need to make sure the background printing checkbox is ticked. If you need to insert an image into each box, you will then need to use text boxes with no fill to place text over the images.

At this point, you’re ready to load your card stock into the printer and print the tickets. I recommend that you preview the print job before sending it to the printer to make sure everything’s in order. To print the tickets, do the following:

To change the Type — e.g., to “Number Order” (First, Second, etc.) — use the Number Type drop list on that dialog. If you delete a subsequent [Outline] code it will cause the subsequent numbers to revert to the type that was used above that point.

There’s an old Steve Martin joke about how to make a million dollars which starts, “First, get a million dollars…” That’s the key to this trick, too: First, get a bunch of numbers. Here’s a file with 1,197 numbers in it. Now import or paste those numbers into a thread so that the numbers appear in the right place. If you need two matching numbers, just import it twice.

These tricks are all great for those of us that have had the joy of making cheap, simple tickets for an office party, small fundraiser, or contest and the boss doesn’t want to spend the time and money to send this job out and have it printed properly.

Once you’re sure that the legal bases are covered, you’ll want to be sure that your raffle tickets make running the show easy and successful. Printing your own tickets can help. It could save you money and it gives you complete control over how your tickets look.

Now repeat for the second and third tickets. But not the fourth, because that’s at the end of the page, so Word will skip to the next number anyway, because the next page always gets the next item in your merge list. Your document should look like this:

” raffle tickets with one number”

1. Start Microsoft Publisher. Click inside the small field with the magnifying glass in the middle of the Available Templates page, then type “tickets” and click the magnifying glass icon. Review the Publisher ticket options, then double-click a template, such as “Raffle Ticket,” to open the design in the Publisher window.

is that it does number properly. If you select ‘8 up’ the number file created is suitable to text merge into InDesign so that after cutting the eight stacks of tickets can be effectively placed one upon each other and the numbering holds.

You’re selling raffle tickets to make money, so why buy the tickets pre-printed? Using Microsoft Word’s mail merge function, you can create your own raffle tickets and design them any way you please. A mail merge doesn’t have to make mail; it is simply a way to define certainly elements of a document, then automatically insert variable elements, such as raffle ticket numbers. The most important thing to remember is that each ticket needs a mate–you don’t want to pull winning ticket number 81018 only to find that no one bought that one.

Being the printer, I can’t say I pass the job on to the printer. 🙂 We do it using auto page numbering, export it as one big pdf, and then use our imposition program to lay the file up multiple times on a page. A lot of jobs we do leave the number blank, and use the numbering machine later, but we’re getting more and more jobs that are run on digital presses like the Docucolor 250 and have numbers too small for the numberer, so we have to do them in the file. This works fine for single-sided jobs, but when a job numbers on one side, but not the other, it gets tricky, especially if it’s NCR, which has to be duplexed.

Any time you want to produce another batch, open the document, press Ctr-A, then F9 and input the starting Ticket #. Simple. Alternatively, if you have Word configured to update fields at print time, just print the document. When you do so, you’ll be prompted for the starting # and Word will take care of the rest.

There is very simple solution that we use and that is to lay out the sheet say 6 up on a A4 sheet as a master page and in document setup set the number of pages to 1,000 if that is the amount you require. Put a page number on each ticket on the page http://thedailtrant.net although they will all have the same number on each page, we put the the first two letters of the customers business name before each number followed by the letters of the alphabet so it then reads for example BT1A, BT2A, BT3A, BT1B, BT2B, BT2C and so on as each page is printed.

6. Highlight all of the new text, including the new number, on the top-left ticket. Press the ‘Ctrl’ and ‘C’ keys to copy the information. Click into the next ticket on the template and highlight the placeholder text. Press the ‘Ctrl’ and ‘V’ keys to paste your information directly over the template ticket and repeat for the rest of the tickets on the page. Click into each ticket separately and change the number on the ticket. This ensures that each ticket has the same basic text.

Generating numbered tickets in Microsoft Word document might seem quite challenging and a taxing task if you are a novel user who is not adept in handling Word documents. You might have made numerous attempts in exploring Word templates and might have been fruitless, depressed and annoyed with all the alternatives and problems that you might have come across while trying to comprehend how to create tickets in Word.

In the example I explained, I was using a list, but did it with un-linked text boxes using “continue from previous number” and “continue numbers across stories.” I’m guessing that there is no way to tell InDesign that even though there are 4 text boxes on the page, that there are two different lists? I’d probably have to just create two threaded stories for that scenario to work.

If you place multiple frames on one page and apply the same numbering style, InDesign will count not be placement but order of creation. That is the reason why I get this weird order on the picture above.

Publisher doesn’t allow for automated sequencing, with the exception of the numbers that come on the tickets in the template. Each ticket must be hand-typed unless you choose to follow the template sequencing.

Go to “Format” and “Background” to change or add a background to the ticket. The options for the different types of backgrounds will appear in the box on the left side of the screen. Click on one to apply it to the ticket.

The background image has a size of 22p5 by 5p6. You can choose any size as long as it fits onto your page. To fit the Rectangle Frame to the background image, select the Option + Command + C. This fits the frame to the content.

I had wanted to create a file that didn’t require Excel as the data source, so I created one using SEQ fields. It was terrible and too huge to mention (thanks Doug Robbins), so I recreated it using Word as the data source so that people who only have Word can use it. You can create up to 5,000 tickets without changing the data file. If you only have Word and need to create more than 5,000 tickets, please don’t type the ticket numbers. Just drop me an email and I’ll create another data file for you with the required numbers.

Thanks very much for your prompt reply, which reassured me that I was on the right path. From having read various Help topics, I suspected that I’d have to use an Excel data source for the numbers. Fortunately, my knowledge of Excel was good enough to know about the drag and drop facility to create automatic sequential numbering, so the data source creation was easy. In the end, it was the mail merge (no surprises?) which proved a tad tricky, but I got there in the end. I’ve used MM many times and quite happily in Word documents, but for Publisher label format, it was of course a bit different. The important bit that I had to discover for myself was the significance of, after getting to the Print stage, going into Print options, to Publication & Paper Settings, and selecting Multiple Pages per Sheet (& in my case, also “Single-sided” cos my default of duplex printing had come up). But TA-DA!  All is fine now. Thanks very much again.

I’m struggling with this as well. I tried creating a .txt file of sequential numbers 1-99 from Excel and brought it in as a datamerge. My tickets are 8″x3″, 3-up, but when I did the merge, InDesign added 3,416 pages. Where the Hell is THAT coming from?? Any clue what I’m doing wrong? I’m using a tutorial that is using CS5, but I don’t see how that has anything to do with all those bloody pages.

Directions are clear for sure but when i go to merge the first ticket is one but the second number on the raffle ticket is two. i have four raffle tickets per page the first three are messed up but the forth is correct all the way down to 500. Any ideas? i have tried with a header and without a header. i even made the first number with a formula. it does work with out putting next record but like you said it is four tickets with the same number and that would use a ton of ink. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello, I observed that CRM automatically generates a ticket number for every case added by the user. The ticket number has a “CAS-” prefix. Is this prefix always same? or is it different based on the cases? Can we always add “CAS-” prefix and use only the number for interaction with the customer? Thanks for your time. Regards, Venkat The prefix is the same for all tickets. Matt Parks —————————–…
