When you enter your numbering settings, the program automatically runs through them in the background and if they’re not logical, the program will suggest more logical numbering settings. The From and To numbers are set so the pages (and tickets) can be ordered correctly for cutting into books with consecutive ticket numbers. If you can’t get the exact end ticket number required, just select the nearest higher number, and only print required number form the print file.

I have a word document with a table of 6 exact cells on a full page table. In those cell areas I have been printing tickets with a list and a mail merge and updating labels. I call to an excel list of 1-2000 and then I generate all the pages through the Finish and Merge option. This all works perfect. I get 2000 individually numbered tickets to print…however…I then have six tickets printed on a page of paper with ticket numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 ,6 then the next page has 7,8,9,10,11,12. This is fine but I then have to cut and stack these tickets in groups of six and at that point none of the numbering is sequential. The tickets are basically random.

Similarly, you will want to decide if you want to make the Ticket Number be a read-only field or not. If users are given the ability to override a Ticket Number manually, you can no longer guarantee uniqueness.  You can easily flag the readonly XLSForm column of your question to ‘yes’ if  you want to make your Ticket Number question read-only.

To use mail merge to create a batch of gift certificates or coupons with tracking numbers, you need to set up a data source that contains a column listing the tracking numbers. If you plan to add only the tracking numbers to your publications, create a data source for the tracking numbers. If you also plan to use mail merge to insert additional information into your publications, such as customer names or addresses, you can add the column of tracking numbers to a data source that also lists the name and address data that you want to use.

What I mean is that TransactionID is a calculated value. It is calculated using the TransactionDate and Sequence fields. So it does not need to be stored. You use the expression to display it wherever you need to. This is explained in the blog.

The Fundraising Authority advises to offer several payment options because a lot of people pay with debit and credit cards these days, so they sometimes don’t carry cash at all. Also, wherever you are, be visible! Use signs and other attractive displays to help ensure everyone sees you.

Sorting is stable in Python so successive sorting works.  The sort processing has to be done in the reverse order of the sort priority of the fields being processed, with the least significant sort field being processed first and the most significant sort field being processed last.  See the second answer to this post on Stack Exchange.

One of the easiest ways to track the success of marketing pieces like gift certificates and coupons is to add a tracking number or code to each gift certificate or coupon that you distribute. When gift certificates or coupons are redeemed, you can use these tracking numbers to record and categorize customer responses.

Hi Cathy – I’m not sure what would cause that to be honest. Because (even with these instructions!) it can be quite hard to get Word to do this right, I did build a little web-based service to do the same thing. Have you tried that? http://app.raffleticketcreator.com

The brackets around the tablename may be confusing Access. If you review the blog you will see I never use brackets for the table name. Other things to check. Is the Sequence control bound to the Sequence field in EvidenceDetail? Is MatterCode a text datatype?

Creating numbered tickets in Word can seem difficult or even impossible if you are not familiar with all the capabilities of the Word program. If you have tried going to the Word template section and have been unsuccessful or frustrated with all the options and questions, there is an easier way. The simplest resolution for creating numbered tickets is to find existing templates that can be edited and adjusted to fit your needs.

I’m not sure what you’re doing – the ‘/’ should be ‘\’ and the very first ticket # should not have the ‘\c’. See the attached. It has the FILLIN field in the first SEQ field as described in my previous post. Simply press Ctrl-A, then F9, input a starting # and all the tickets will update.

There’s other ways of doing it though. Let me show you another way of doing it. So let’s go right back into TCount. Use your arrow key, Lynn. Another lazy thing about AutoCAD. I’m going to go ahead and I’m just going to window these guys and you’ll see when it asks me how I want to sort these objects, I’m going to say in the Y. It actually goes in a decreasing Y level. I’m going to say Y, decreasing. So it should go from top to bottom. We’ll do the same 1 and let’s say we want it to increment by 5, for example. Let’s just totally go crazy and shake it up. This time I going to do a prefix just to show you what that looks like. You can see that it had the number 1 and then it added 5 to it and it got 6, add the next number to it and got 11, and added the next number to it and got 16. It went from the top to the bottom. So that’s a prefix. I don’t know why you would want to increment by 5 like that, but you could. So I’m going to undo that.

Drag a horizontal and vertical guide onto the page. Set them both to 1p6 (18pt). To align them select the guide with the selection Tool (V) and type the number into the X and Y tab. This will ensure that the guides are set to the exact number.

In Word 2000, when you begin a numbered list, it is an Outline Numbered list by default. Therefore, you do not need to go into the Bullets & Numbering command unless you plan on changing the default scheme.

What if I need to create 200 vouchers and each has a unique code not in any sort of numeric or alphabetical order. The codes are listed in excel under one column. Is there a way to link the text frame on a master page where the codes should be placed to the excel document to assign one code per voucher?

Sequential numbering is commonly used on carbonless forms, also known as NCR forms like invoices, purchase orders, contracts, etc. It can also be used on other printed items like raffle tickets where you need a unique identifying number.
