If you need to give sequential ID according to the sorted field, then You need to use XtoolsPro, where you can sort the field and then create a sequential ID according to the sorted field. This will create a new shapefile as output with sorted field and ID according to the Sorted Field.

By default, the WordPress post ID will be used as ticket ID’s but this results in gaps within the number sequence due to the way in which WordPress works. For example, your first ticket may be assigned an ID of 100 but the next ticket may be 103. With sequential ticket numbers enabled you will ensure that an ID of 101 is assigned to the next ticket.

Once you’re sure that the legal bases are covered, you’ll want to be sure that your raffle tickets make running the show easy and successful. Printing your own tickets can help. It could save you money and it gives you complete control over how your tickets look.

I am printing many pages of tickets. Each page has 5 tickets and I would like to sequentially put a number on each ticket. I have tried to use the auto page numbering feature but that is putting the same number on each of the 5 tickets and then increments for the next page — not what I need. Also, can the numbering not suppress the leading zeroes? Thanks.

Now repeat for the second and third tickets. But not the fourth, because that’s at the end of the page, so Word will skip to the next number anyway, because the next page always gets the next item in your merge list. Your document should look like this:

The final scenario is very similar to Scenario 2. The two main differences are in the criteria of the DMax and the expression to display the identifier. The document table already has two fields to identify a

Hello! I already have automatic numbering set up (to change paragraph numbers automatically when paragraphs are moved within a document) but I would also like to have automatic lettering within the same document that is independent from the numbering. Example, paragraph 1 references Exhibit A, paragraph 2 references Exhibit B, so on and so forth. Currently using the above referenced method, the auto numbering then follows as if the letters are a representation of the corresponding number (if that makes sense), ex: 1 B 3 C 5 D. How do I have the number sequencing independent from the letter sequence? Thank you in advance!

Other venues: To expand your selling efforts, consider any and every place where there’s a lot of foot traffic. You can sell raffle tickets at church potlucks, outside of convenience stores and drugstores (with permission), and at PTA meetings.

I’m chairing our school’s fundraiser gala, and found these last year after a very frustrating experience with a similar Avery product. These are MUCH better, and I love that they come pre-numbered. Overall a stellar find.

A cursor in a script can override this order by using the ORDERBY keyword in an SQL expression to change the order of the records as they are read, or by processing a cursor twice to first load and process the records in a sorted list and then to write the values back to the table based on the sorted list.  I prefer the two cursor method, since ordering the records on disk is much slower than reading them in their default order and then sorting them in an in-memory list.  My solution in my next post uses a cursor to first read and sort the sequentially numbered data and then uses the Field Calculator to do the write operation in place of a second cursor.

Thanks, Scott! I was having a problem a few weeks ago getting the sequence field to populate and thought it was the data type based on another blog I read, but then added the If/Then statement. Just changed the data type back to integer and it’s working again.

I have done this twice now, getting flustered. The ticket part the person keeps has the correct sequential number on it, but the side that we keep has the same number on it for the whole page. What part am I missing, at first I did not uncheck the box, but this time I did but have the same number on the stub side that we keep with the person’s name, etc

Select the Text Tool (T) and start dragging a text box that will wrap around the whole ticket including the crop marks. This is very important since the Data Merge will automatically calculate the duplication. Then open up the Text Frame Option (Command + B) and set the Inset spacing to 1p4 for the top and 1p8 for the left. Of course, you can place the text for the numbers anywhere you like. I set the numbers to a small text.

A cash raffle is when the prize is a fraction of the total of the earnings. They are sometimes referred to as “50/50″ draws, although the prize may not necessarily be equal to 50 percent of the earnings.[5] It is illegal in some places.[citation needed]

The last two arguments are optional.  They are a starting number for the sequence and the increment amount.  By default these are 0 and 1 respectively.  If you are processing only part of a layer to extend an existing numbering series then the start argument should be set to the last number already used by the preexisting series.  If you want to increment by steps other than 1 you can modify the increment parameter.

Unlike identity column values, which are generated when rows are inserted, an application can obtain the next sequence number before inserting the row by calling the NEXT VALUE FOR function. The sequence number is allocated when NEXT VALUE FOR is called even if the number is never inserted into a table. The NEXT VALUE FOR function can be used as the default value for a column in a table definition. Use sp_sequence_get_range to get a range of multiple sequence numbers at once.

Raffle tickets, benefit tickets, event tickets, documents and multi-part forms can easily be numbered using Number-Pro and your favorite third party application like InDesign, Corel Draw, Word or Publisher.

First, you have to use YOUR field and control names. The ones I use are samples. The error you are getting indicated you do not have a control named txtProject. So you have to substitute the correct name of the control. bound to the ProjectID field. By the way it is not a good idea to the octothorpe(#) as part of a field name. A controlname may be different from a fieldname. The name property of a control is on the Other tab in the Properties dialog.

Now I have another problem. This code worked perfectly up to ten records. When I tried to add the eleventh record, the Sequence field won’t add any more numbers. It’s stuck at 10. This of course causes my RecordNumber field, which displays as

I’m struggling with this as well. I tried creating a .txt file of sequential numbers 1-99 from Excel and brought it in as a datamerge. My tickets are 8″x3”, 3-up, but when I did the merge, InDesign added 3,416 pages. Where the Hell is THAT coming from?? Any clue what I’m doing wrong? I’m using a tutorial that is using CS5, but I don’t see how that has anything to do with all those bloody pages.

Start adding some text. Date, time, place, event, etc. Be creative. You can place color boxes behind the text and play with the font sizes. I usually never use more the two fonts, and if I do, I’ll make sure they are quite the opposite. Pick a font with a big family, meaning lots of weights. Helvetica, DIN or Univers are good choices.

This kind of template is very easy and fast for creating a multitude of serialized tickets. You don’t have to change each number or manually update each field. That’s far too tedious. The lottery might be over before you’re done.

Thank you for these clear instructions. I have had the same problem Mommy Vaughan and followed the suggestion. However, on re-opening the Word document, I have the dialogue box Invalid Merge Field. I have to use Task Manager to close down Word. I am using Word 2010. Maybe that is part or all of the problem. Any ideas please? I need to sort this by tomorrow night to print them on Monday!

ObjectIDs only get created when the record has been submitted to the feature service.  This is a problem when the life cycle of the event starts even before there is a chance to add a record into the feature service. Think for example that a city employee wants to use Survey123 to record an infraction of the city’s code.   The person receiving the ticket must know what the Ticket Number is even if it has not yet been officially recorded (submitted) into the City’s database (feature service).  If the city employee happens to be working on a remote area with no connectivity, there will be no chances of waiting for ArcGIS to give back a Ticket Number…

I would like to number a voucher book, i have place 4 vouchers on a page, the thing is that i want each of these vouchers to start with different number, 100, 200, 300, 400, and then i want to number them 99 times. The problem is that they have to be numbered only 1 per page, so that when i have printed them all i can easily crop them and staple them right up with having to go through it all.

You can use the same technique to restart a numbered list back at the first number as you did to continue with the previous list. In the Bullets and Numbering dialog box, choose Restart numbering, and then click OK.

The ticket you create can be tagged with a unique number so that when you send an email from Odoo, the email subject will contain the Ticket Number for easy searching and identification. This makes it very easy to search for emails that are related to a certain ticket or customer. Searching of ticket tagged with a number within odoo is also made simple and faster. Enable/Disable tagging of ticket heading within the helpdesk team settings.

In the example I explained, I was using a list, but did it with un-linked text boxes using “continue from previous number” and “continue numbers across stories.” I’m guessing that there is no way to tell InDesign that even though there are 4 text boxes on the page, that there are two different lists? I’d probably have to just create two threaded stories for that scenario to work.

I am creating a file in inDesign for a client that is asking for numbered tickets. They’d like to be able to print a specific number for each ticket. I’ve read some of the older answers for similar questions that refer to Data Merge, but I’d prefer not to take that route if avoidable. What I’d ultimately like to do is create a space for the numbers to go, select the number of pages within the Print menu, and have the spaces populate with the corresponding numbers while printing.

I just tried the script.  It permanently sorted the data. The ObjectIDs for the new feature class were all ordered and sequential according to my sort order choices (Ascending or Descending on up to 3 fields).  The Output respected both Selection sets and Definition queries when a layer was the source and had imposed these limitations on the full feature set.

Should you find a template you like, but need the sequential numbering, you can order those from them, too. You’ll get your tickets in sheets with micro-perforations. Then you can tear them apart like stamps. Have your volunteers assemble them into booklets and you’re ready to go.

However, using Styles with Numbering can make this a little less annoying. Once your document is complete, the last step should be to fix the tab and update the style. It will at least prevent you from having to change each paragraph individually.

Since the Case Number is unique to the Client, we only need to set the criteria in the DMax for the case number. We will also need to add an Integer field named

At this time, decide how many tickets you want to print. You can choose All and print 5,000 or you can choose to print only a certain amount. For instance, you may want to print records 1 to 500 to print only 500 tickets. If you need to print more tickets later, you’ll want to print records 501 to 1,000 to print another 500 tickets.

5. Drag the number, which Publisher defaults to “1,” into place on the ticket. To change the sequence, such as to start with “100” instead of “1,” click the “Page Number” button again and choose “Format Page Numbers.” Click the “Start this section with” radio button and type the new number into the field. Click the “OK” button to have Publisher update the ticket number.

Some states have a list of prohibited items, such as animals and alcohol, so check the laws in your area to ensure that you comply. Many community businesses will donate prizes for the raffle; all you have to do is ask. They’re generally willing to do that because they understand the goodwill that is generated from their contribution efforts. To make your raffle give-away as easy as possible, consider the 50/50 raffle, where 50% of the proceeds generated from ticket sales goes to the drawn winner of the raffle, and 50% goes to the organization raising the funds. Besides being easy to award the prize, it also eliminates the hassle of securing merchandise. You’ll need to decide on a selling price. You don’t want to price them too high so that many people would find it too expensive. The lower the price of each ticket, the more tickets you’ll sell. If you price your tickets at $1 each, expect each buyer to purchase from one to five tickets. If your tickets are $5-10 each, each buyer will likely purchase no more that two.

Finally, you said: “I’m not sure how the display would work as far as searching for specific Artifact IDs in the future.”. This will not be a problem. The best solution is to use a combobox to select the Artifact ID. The relevant properties of that combo would be:

This could be done with a macro, but the code would need to be tailored to put the numbers where you need them. Can you attach a document to a post with some representative data (delete anything sensitive)? You do this via the paperclip symbol on the ‘Go Advanced’ tab.

If your objective is to generate a report, then you don’t want numbering to be a part of your query but rather a part of the report itself. You can use the “Running Sum” property of a textbox on a report to do all the work for you:

Unlike other Microsoft Office programs, Excel does not provide a button to number data automatically. But, you can easily add sequential numbers to rows of data by dragging the fill handle to fill a column with a series of numbers or by using the ROW function.

Any time you want to produce another batch, open the document, press Ctr-A, then F9 and input the starting Ticket #. Simple. Alternatively, if you have Word configured to update fields at print time, just print the document. When you do so, you’ll be prompted for the starting # and Word will take care of the rest.

Several websites assist people holding e-tickets to check in online in advance of the twenty-four-hour airline restriction. These sites store a passenger’s flight information and then when the airline opens up for online check-in the data is transferred to the airline and the boarding pass is emailed back to the customer. With this e-ticket technology, if a passenger receives his boarding pass remotely and is travelling without check-in luggage, he may bypass traditional counter check-in.

The user will then see a list of the combinations of to choose from, but the combo will return the autonumber RecordID to use to select the record. In fact, you can use the combobox wizard to create a search combo.

I removed the required setting on the table level. The form does not give me an error message now, but does not close on its on. The auto-indenting feature of bullets and lists has always frustrated me. EVERY time you apply a numbered or bulleted list, you’ve got to set the indents. I want my lists to be indented at the very left of the page, flush with the rest of the paragraphs. But no, Microsoft insists that you want them indented by 0.63cm and hanging at 1.27cm (WHY 0.63? Why not 0.7? Or 1.0cm? But that’s a question for a different session.) (I know, it’s because MS is American and still uses inches etc…)

What I mean is that TransactionID is a calculated value. It is calculated using the TransactionDate and Sequence fields. So it does not need to be stored. You use the expression to display it wherever you need to. This is explained in the blog.

After you set up your list of tracking numbers in the data source and design your publication, you are ready to merge your list of tracking numbers with your publication to create a batch of gift certificates or coupons that each displays a unique tracking number.

GREAT tip with lots of uses! Thank you. This will save me hours of work on some tickets I’m designing. However, I also need to set up table tents that have numbers on them. They’re 2-up, and are folded, so each number needs to appear twice on the same page. In short, I want a page with 1/1 and 2/2, and I’m getting 1/2 and 3/4. Am I missing an obvious fix? Thank you.

The Running Sum method works great as long you are happy with creating and running an Access report, but not requirements want the data in an Access report. Sometimes we do need to export a content of query and therefore we can’t use a report (or at least we don’t want extraneous formatting contents when we try to export a report).

One other thought. It may not hurt to make option 1 a logical expresssion where it will update the number IF a number other than 0 already exists for it. This will prevent it from giving a new number if you go back, edit it and save it. I accomplished this by adding the following (roughly): If PONo=0 Then My.PONo…. (Expression and save command) Else (Save Command)

“I just want to thank you for a wonderful software product. We numbered 670,000 tickets with numbering in 28 different positions, and it worked flawlessly. We are also now printing cheques with this software. Very easy to use, and works great.” – Printshop, Alberta Canada

I’ve even tried adding the procedure to the OpenDate_AfterUpdate field instead of with the save record control, but I can’t seem to get it to work either. The only thing that shows up in the RecordNumber field is “13” unless I manually populate the Sequence field (which misses the whole point).

E-tickets in the airline industry were devised in about 1994,[citation needed] and have now largely replaced the older multi-layered paper ticketing systems. Since 1 June 2008, it has been mandatory for IATA members to use e-ticketing. Where paper tickets are still available, some airlines charge a fee for issuing paper tickets.

Law firms use numbered lists daily to prepare contracts, pleadings, letters and memos. Word makes activating and customizing numbering fairly straightforward. You can create simple numbered lists, such as A, B, C and 1, 2, 3. You can also customize these lists to setup specific numbering styles for your firm and practice group. Multilevel lists such as I, A, 1 are handled through Word’s Outline Numbering feature, which is explained later in this chapter. Many firms rely on outline numbered lists to draw up contracts and pleadings. Like numbered lists, outline numbered lists can be customized.

Tip  If you would like to create a numbered list that is not attached to the current numbering scheme in your document, you can use the SEQ field to insert numbers. This is discussed near the end of this chapter.

This will work OK for a small set of data, but the more data there is, the more intensive the subquery becomes, and it must be called repeatedly for each row. This is one of those rare cases where doing it in VBA is faster than doing it in SQL — after all, row numbering is fundamentally iterative, not set-based which just goes against the grain of what SQL was designed to do – solve a problem in a set-based fashion, non-iterative fashion.

CK Note: Word 2007 – 2013 interface has an different automatic numbering scheme which I have been told is much less subject to corruption. Microsoft Word 2010 Bible by Herb Tyson, MVP. However numbering is still very imperfect in these later versions. I still recommend following Shauna Kelly’s step-by-step instructions (see above) if setting up numbering in a template or in a document likely to be heavily edited. If you start without doing this and end up with “spaghetti numbering,” fixing it will be a very large chore!

You are able to customize the numbering scheme at any time: before, during or after you apply it. You can customize all nine heading levels or only the levels you are planning to use. Some fields in the Customize dialog box are the same as the Numbered List Customize dialog box. The fields unique to Outline Numbers are:

If you are using the ROW function, and you want the numbers to be inserted automatically as you add new rows of data, turn that range of data into an Excel table. All rows that are added at the end of the table are numbered in sequence. For more information, see Create or delete an Excel table in a worksheet.

As part of the IATA Simplifying the Business initiative, the association instituted a program to switch the industry to 100% electronic ticketing. The program concluded on June 1, 2008, with the association saying that the resulting industry savings were approximately US$3 billion.[2]

In January 2017 it was reported that Germany’s Federal Minister of Transport and Digital Infrastructure, Alexander Dobrindt wants to create an electronic ticket to connect public bus and train services as well as parking spaces and potentially car-sharing services across all cities.[7][8]

It is a 2 mil pearl white gloss polyester with a high tack permanent acrylic adhesive. It provides excellent smudge resistance, moisture resistance and chemical resistance. It has excellent resistance to oil, dirt, alcohol, blood and water.

Every ticket you create manually or from a received email will be assigned a unique number generated from a sequence that you have defined it yourself. This is very useful when you have thousands of issues since you can easily search, track and reference by the unique number.Assign a sequence per every helpdesk team or use a default sequence for all helpdesk tickets. The choice is in your hands.

Press Ctrl+V each additional row of labels you want. You want enough rows of labels to meet your entire needs. Thus, if you need a total of 125 labels, and you can get 3 labels per line, you should end up with 42 rows of labels.

Amtrak started offering electronic tickets on all train routes on 30 July 2012.[5] These tickets can be ordered over the internet and printed (as a PDF file), printed at a Quik-Trak kiosk, or at the ticket counter at the station. Electronic tickets can also be held in a smart phone and shown to the conductor using an app.

Use this App to assign a unique ticket number to each and every support ticket created from an incoming email. Use the Odoo inbuilt sequence generator to come up with a meaningful sequence number for your tickets

The script comes with a toolbox to make it easily accessible in ModelBuilder, but I found that the tool initally gave an error when I tried to run it.  I had to go into the script properties and correct the source by browsing to the location where I had stored the script.

Create an Excel worksheet that has as many numbers in it as you need. For instance, if you need 175 labels, you would place a title in cell A1 (such as “Number”) and the 175 numbers you need in cells A2 through A176. Make sure you save the workbook.

Publisher doesn’t allow for automated sequencing, with the exception of the numbers that come on the tickets in the template. Each ticket must be hand-typed unless you choose to follow the template sequencing.

While Automatic Numbering is very useful, there are times when you may want to freeze numbers. This cannot be easily undone, but the process is described here: Converting Automatic Numbering to Manual Numbering

Most changes you make to the top ticket are automatically made on all the other tickets, too. No tiring copying and pasting needed. The template shows just 5 tickets, but once you have them looking the way you want, just multiply them using copy and paste.

Some drawbacks to this feature are that you lose a little control when you are typing. Word formats for you and some users do not like this. Also, on certain items, you will get a number when you do not expect or need one. For example, you have an attorney whose name begins with an initial (A. George Smith). When you type the name and press ENTER, the first initial “A.” converts to an automatic number.

“how to create sequentially numbered tickets in word _sequential number generator microsoft word”

You can also apply numbers by using a menu command. From the Format menu, choose Bullets and Numbering. There are different advantages to both. The following exercises show how to use each method to applying basic numbers to a list.

Finally, though it won’t be required, having a ORDER BY clause is probably going to be very essential. Without an explicit sort applied to query, you might find that sequential numbers are sequential… but to the wrong rows! It’s entirely up to you to define how it should be sorted so the sequential numbers make sense.

I removed the required setting on the table level. The form does not give me an error message now, but does not close on its on. I closed it via a command then looked at the Design Projects table to see if the new record, #896, shows up. A new record is there, with all the entered data EXCEPT the very important field of the Project ID. That field is blank.

Brilliant! I followed your instructions to the end, though I had to Google how to do a mail merge in Publisher 2010. But, with your help, I now have gorgeous raffle tickets of my own design! Thank you 🙂

An awesome new feature to has been introduced to Microsoft Publisher 2010 is the ability to use Data Sources to create “Catalogue Pages”. This is like a Mail Merge for design documents. Now, I would have to agree that Publisher isn’t the best graphic design program in the market. But it’s certainly adequate for simple ticket designs — for example, for a school social. Let’s say we want each ticket to have a unique number and an inspiration quote. This is all possible through Publisher and a data source, e.g. an Excel Spreadsheet.

You can use the Customize button to modify the outline numbered lists to your specifications. When you modify a list, it changes that placeholder’s preset numbering format. This is how you save your customizations. You have seven presets and they are stored in the Registry key List Gallery Presets.

A sequence is a user-defined schema-bound object that generates a sequence of numeric values according to the specification with which the sequence was created. The sequence of numeric values is generated in an ascending or descending order at a defined interval and may cycle (repeat) as requested. Sequences, unlike identity columns, are not associated with tables. An application refers to sequence object to receive its next value. The relationship between sequences and tables is controlled by the application. User applications can reference a sequence object and coordinate the values keys across multiple rows and tables.

My heart sinks. It’s indented at 0.63, hanging at 1.27cm, no tab stop. For crying out loud! Why does it work when I’ve got the actual Normal.dotm file open, but NOT when it generates a new document BASED on Normal.dotm?

Thanks everyone for your time and comments. What I was hoping to avoid was having to render out every ticket inDesign before printing. Seems like that is unavoidable. I’ll try the way you folks have suggested, thanks again.

I have the first sheet with numbers up to 80. Now, how do you go from 80 to the next 160 for the next sheet? Once it gets to what should be 90 on the second sheet, it goes to 810 and so on. It adds a “0” to the same numbers.

Have you ever needed to number a variety of text objects in your drawing file? It’s so tedious to do this manually! In this video tip from Cadalyst and Lynn Allen, you’ll see how to sequentially number selected text objects with the AutoCAD Express Tool TCount instead.

The first argument function_num can be any number from 1 to 11 (includes hidden values) or 101-111 (exclude hidden values) that specifies what function to use in calculating subtotal to the range specified (i.e. ref1 as the second argument).

“consecutive numbering indesign cs6 -sequential number printing machine”

I used the CS3 directions to number 500 tickets both at the top and bottom of each ticket 4 up on a page. This method worked great and really didn’t take very long at all. I dudplicated several spreads at a time to create my 125 pages of tickets ( 4up = a total of 500 numbered tickets). Thanks so much for the help!

I’m not sure which version of InDesign first introduced printing Thumbnails like this, but even if yours doesn’t support that, your printer driver may have a similar feature of its own. Check the printer’s own dialog box by clicking “Setup…” near the bottom left corner of the Print dialog and dismissing the warning, then clicking “Preferences…” in Windows’s Print dialog that comes up (I’m not sure how to access this on Mac OS X, but I’m pretty sure there’s an easy way). For instance, on many HP printers, the feature you want is called “Pages per sheet” and has a drop-down offering 1, 2, 4, 9, or 16 pages per sheet.

You may wonder whether typing 1, 2, and 3 would be easier than using the ListNum field. Although doing that may be easier initially, the value of using the ListNum field becomes apparent when you cut and paste. When a paragraph contains multiple numbered items that you move or delete, Word automatically updates the ListNum fields. Using ListNum fields assures you of accurate numbering within a paragraph throughout the document.

First, you can’t use an Autonumber as part of your identifier as it can’t be reset for each year. So you have to follow the instructions in my blog article to create a sequential number. The article describes exactly how you can do what you want. If you follow the article closely, you should be able to do what you need.

Annabelle – You need the tickets in the top slot of each page to run from 1 to 167, then the second slot down to be 168 – 335, then have 336 – 500 in the third slot. Easiest way to achieve that would be to create a your list of numbers in Step 3 in Excel so it runs as 1,168,336,2,169,337 … etc., like this:

Using the current time is certainly going to give us a unique number for the device you are on, but this does not mean that it will be unique across all devices capturing data. First of all, there may be people creating new survey at exactly the same second.  If working across multiple time zones, the chances of coincident numbers increase.

This is about the 4th time I’ve ordered ticket from you and each time I’ve been impressed with the quality and rapid turn around. But we still seem to have problems with the size of the logo on the back; would like it to be larger than the finished product. Maybe we can get it next year!

We also want to setup right away the crop marks for the tickets. Create another layer and call it “crop marks & score marks.” We will place the crop marks and the score line onto this layer. Start placing crop marks that you create with the Pen Tool (P) around the ticket.

Thank you for these instructions!! I’m using them to auto number my son’s baseball team raffle tickets which we hand numbered last year (UGH!). I followed the instructions exactly but for some reason the numbering is starting at 2 every time. I did deselect the checkbox about the column headers which seems the obvious culprit. Any ideas? I’m using Word on a PC. Thanks!!

Create the text frame for the numbers in InDesign and if there are more than one ticket per page, link them. Place the text file into the first frame with a shift click to auto flow and create new pages.

I have attached a file I am attempting to configure with sequential #’s. I have (I think) placed the switches and other codes correctly, but the numbering is a bit screwy. Will you take a peek and let me know your thoughts?

You’re here because you are trying to do something good for someone in need. The world could use a few more people like you. Yet fund raising, even on a small scale, still takes a lot of work. If you’ve decided a raffle is the way to go, we’re here to help.

Any time you want to produce another batch, open the document, press Ctr-A, then F9 and input the starting Ticket #. Simple. Alternatively, if you have Word configured to update fields at print time, just print the document. When you do so, you’ll be prompted for the starting # and Word will take care of the rest.

With this expression we check only for records that are in the same year as the Inquiry date to increment the sequence. Again, the NZ function will automatically restart the sequence with each year. Cleary, though, we cannot generate this number until the InquiryDate has been entered. Is this value is a user entry, then you may want to check that it’s filled in before generating the number. Something like:

The Field Calculator uses the ObjectID order exclusively and in previous threads no one has proposed an effective or efficient way to override that order with the Field Calculator.  However, in my next post I have come up with a way to do that.  However, the code everyone else has provided for the autoIncrement calculation cannot give any other order than the order you are seeing.

I would like to print 500 copies of one word document and I need to have 1-500 on the top of the page. I know how to get the page number on but how do I get it to print the page number if there is only one doc.

Note  The “Rog” in this example is the name of the Interrogatory numbering scheme. This name will keep this numbering scheme unique from any other schemes that may be running in the document. See Tip below for more information.

This chapter (web page) takes you through how numbering is supposed to work in Word and the various controls. It is useful, but primarily on SEQ fields and simple numbered lists and also as reference showing the menus, dialogs and controls and going through the concepts for outline numbering. To actually set up outline numbering that works, refer to the Kelly and McGhie articles.

The Running Sum method works great as long you are happy with creating and running an Access report, but not all requirements want the data in an Access report. Sometimes we do need to export a content of query and therefore we can’t use a report (or at least we don’t want extraneous formatting contents when we try to export a report).

Hi Scott you helped me with the sequential numbering however, I am having a problem where I changed from before insert to putting the code behind a button Save Record and Get New Number the OnClick

Ah, that’s the con – this works beautifully when you are in fact exporting data but when you are viewing the query’s output in a datasheet or a form, as you scroll around, Access will be re-evaluating the rows, including a call to the RowNumber(). But when it repeatedly calls RowNumber(), of course it keeps incrementing blindly, without any regards to whether a number was already generated for that row.

Finally, though it won’t be required, having a ORDER BY clause is probably going to be very essential. Without an explicit sort applied to query, you might find that sequential numbers are sequential… but to the wrong rows! It’s entirely up to you to define how it should be sorted so the sequential numbers make sense.

Final note. Remember to make sure you use the actual object names. The textbo bound to the PONum filed would not be named txtPONum by default. And don’t forget to add the Me.Dirty=False to commit the records immediately after generating the number.

You can use Microsoft Office Publisher, Microsoft Office Excel, Microsoft Office Access, Microsoft Office Outlook, or Microsoft Office Outlook with Business Contact Manager to create a data source for your mail merge project. If you want to create a large list of unique, sequential numbers to use as tracking codes for gift certificates or coupons, however, you can use Excel to quickly generate this list.

Another fan of Fusion Pro Desktop here. This is exactly what you need. We have sold both PrintShop Mail and Fusion Pro Desktop for this very application (numbering) and other VDP applications. Fusion Pro Desktop easily beats PrintShop Mail from both a price and performance viewpoint. You could also try Printer’s Bench http://www.elkriversystems.com/ProductsList.aspx for a good entry level package

As you can see, an idea of sequential numbering can be solved many different ways using different domains. This is typical in this field of work and precisely why it pays to not just consider how you can do it in one domain but also whether the domain is the right domain. We saw how we can easily leverage built-in features such as Transact-SQL’s ROW_NUMBER() or Access report’s Running Sum property. We also not only saw how we can craft our custom solutions in either VBA or SQL but we also see how we can use both together to create a solution that is better.

The brackets around the tablename may be confusing Access. If you review the blog you will see I never use brackets for the table name. Other things to check. Is the Sequence control bound to the Sequence field in EvidenceDetail? Is MatterCode a text datatype?

I’ve managed to edit one using Find and Replace with an { SEQ } field as the replacement to give sequential numbering. This started from 1 which is fine. Subsequent xml’s where I’ve tried to use { SEQ \r n } to get numbering starting from other than 1 results in multiple occurrences of the number as defined by n. It’s this way even after updating the fields.

I’m trying to skip a couple numbers in the sequence. Is there an easy way to do that? I’m building an auction catalog with over 830 items but some of them aren’t going to be listed in the catalog. Is it just easier to restart numbering at that point? Thank you!

The entire experience from making my first call inquiring about cardstock to ordering to checkout was fantastic. Entire process was easy and the finished product exceeded my expectation 10-fold. The next time I need this type of document I have no hesitation in contacting you.

Excellent choice for ticket printing. Easy to use, great customer support and two day delivery. They printed my tickets the day I ordered them. Pricing was great as well. We will use them anytime we need tickets.

John, Sorry for the delay, but I was away last week with limited Internet access. I assumed if you had a Save button, you would know how to put code behind it. To see the code behind a button, Select the button in Form Design Mode and open the Properties Dialog (Right click and select properties), on the Events tab there should be something in the On Click event of the button. If you click the Ellipses […] next to the event, it will open Code Builder where you can enter the code.

The sequence object generates numbers according to its definition, but the sequence object does not control how the numbers are used. Sequence numbers inserted into a table can have gaps when a transaction is rolled back, when a sequence object is shared by multiple tables, or when sequence numbers are allocated without using them in tables. When created with the CACHE option, an unexpected shutdown, such as a power failure, can lose the sequence numbers in the cache.

Give your brand, your sponsors brand or your advertising a boost with custom Tickets from Admit One Products. You’ll get maximum exposure when your organization’s logo or slogan is displayed on the front or back of your ticket as customers purchase and hold their tickets. Often tickets are kept as keepsakes and mementos for years to come and end up in scrap books to remember the great time they had at an event.

Lastly, students should understand that it is the responsibility of management to sequentially number source documents and not of auditor. Auditors only check whether source documents are sequentially numbered or not as it shows the seriousness of management in preparing accurate financial statements which is one their prime responsibility as the attitude of management is vital in assessing inherent risks and control risks which ultimately affect audit risk.

We also want to setup right away the crop marks for the tickets. Create another layer and call it “crop marks & score marks.” We will place the crop marks and the score line onto this layer. Start placing crop marks that you create with the Pen Tool (P) around the ticket.

Now you’re done. Click OK and you should see the number appear in the text frame. To make more numbers, just duplicate this frame. Every time you make a new frame, InDesign increments the number automatically. Note that in the following image, the frames are not threaded together:

I have done this twice now, getting flustered. The ticket part the person keeps has the correct sequential number on it, but the side that we keep has the same number on it for the whole page. What part am I missing, at first I did not uncheck the box, but this time I did but have the same number on the stub side that we keep with the person’s name, etc

But what is the ControlSource. Data controls have a Controlsource property. This property can be viewed in the Property dialog at the top of the Data tab. You need to set this to the Sequence field in your table.

Change all other existing text to reflect the correct date and prizes by highlighting the words and either editing or deleting the existing text. Font size and style can be adjusted using the font toolbar above the document. Images can be added by using the Insert menu in the toolbar and following the same process as inserting images to a Word document.

Does anyone know of the lisp I’m talking about? Can you paste it here? There’s a webstie (esurveylisp) that has a command called INR that does basically the same thing (per their Youtube channel), but their website never loads for me.

Sequence fields are the first method that Word developed for automatic numbering and, in the words of John McGhie, the most robust. They are virtually unbreakable. Here is a link to the Microsoft Office reference page for them in Word 2010. As far as I know, the syntax and the switches have remained unchanged since before Windows.

I found a # sequence generator that can give me one column with the sequence out to whatever I need (say 30,000) however, I can’t get a duplicate number. I need the ticket and the stub to have the same number.

I’m using Arc 10 & attempted the Python & VB Script codes.  Both produced a window stating: “There was a failure during processing, check the Geo processing Results window for details”, which states: “ERROR 000732 Input Table: Dataset Boundaries does not exist or is not supported”.

Getting Word to put a unique number on each raffle ticket is easy enough, but persuading Word to print out several uniquely-numbered raffle tickets per sheet of paper is very hard (I think it is impossible, actually. At least I couldn’t figure it out. UPDATE: I did figure it out. Instructions for printing raffle tickets using Microsoft Word are here.). And you don’t really want to have every raffle ticket use up a whole sheet of paper.

I’m also concerned about your table design. You mentioned entering a First name. But I don’t really see that people names belong in a transaction record. Can you explain more about what you are tracking in your app and what these transactions are.

Tip  Follow the same steps (above) to create Request for Production or Request for Admissions. The only difference would be in Step 3, you would change the “rog” to “rpf” or “rfa”. This will keep unique numbering schemes running in the same document. Therefore, you could have an Interrogatory No.1 as well as Request for Production No.1. Keep in mind that if you cut, copy or paste sequence codes, you’ll need to select them and press F9 to update the field codes. They do not update automatically.

In Word 2000, when you a numbered list, it is an Outline Numbered list by default. Therefore, you do not need to go into the Bullets & Numbering command unless you plan on changing the default scheme.
