It’s easy to enter a SEQ field manually. Begin by pressing [Ctrl]+[F9]. When Word displays the blank field, enter seq list1, as shown in Figure A. List1 is a required argument; you can use any descriptive name you like as long as it begins with an alpha character. The parentheses distinguish the numbers within the text. They’re not part of the field code. Highlight the field code and press [F9] to display the field’s value. As you can see in Figure B, the first field returns (1).

For example, you would like to have your first level of numbering to be Bold and Centered. I’ve just took photos of a wedding, and i have 180 photos that need numbering so i can put on to CD for the bride and groom to choose from. I will make a checklist on paper and they can check off the number of the photo.
Thanks I’ll consider something like V01_Final01 since you’re right that D/F might not be very clear although the V would be clear in my case. But yes, because of my specific reports where I get more than one Final version of report based on only one Final dataset, I get value from having V01_Final02 instead of V02_Final, since then I can keep the Version numbers increasing only when the main dataset changes.

Tip: You might find it helpful to view not only the contents of your header or footer area, but also the formatting marks in those areas. On the Home tab, in the Paragraph group, choose Show/Hide (¶) to turn on the display of formatting marks. Choose the button again to turn off the display.
As has already been mentioned, the method for organizing and “naming” or “numbering” documents is really up to your organization. There is no requirement for the method to be applied. So, let me ask you this. WHY does it matter if there is a need for a file between 034 and 035? What’s the impact to the organization? What’s the risk this happens? From my perspective the answers are “none” and “none”. Why? Because the numbering is not what’s important. The real value is the document itself.

In the “Options” menu, tap on “Document Numbering” and type your preferred document numbering string (Document Numbering). If you would like to keep ordered numbering, make sure that the following sequence is included: [number]. Alternatively you can set the starting number (Reset Numbering).
All of the information you see on the image is actually part of it except for the image number,which is put there by your browser.What I’d like to be able to do is have that image number actually as part of the image and NOT seperate,so if someone saves it they still have that number visible.
I completely understand the desire to make it look logical and sequential and user/auditor-friendly. And at first, the numbering system seems ideal. As others have pointed out – and as you’ve realized – things change, organizations evolve and so too does the documentation. Rather than become caught up in the numbering, focus on who owns the documentation, the document control process and the method by which documents are created as new processes come into play.
To start page numbering later in your document, you divide the document into sections, unlink the sections, and then insert page numbers. You then choose the page numbering style and choose the starting value for each section.
We are experiencing an almost virus-like situation with some of our dwg files. Massive file sizes that grow exponentially – even with very few entities and no xrefernces. Said files also have issues with copy-to-clipboard and paste from one dwg file to the next: objects do not paste, but dozens of sequentailly named phantom blocks are generated.
In your Numbering & Section Options, you’ll see many options. We’re going to ignore all of them for now, except the Section Marker area. Type the word “Introduction” in the Section Marker area. Click “OK.”
Thanks for the head start on this, it got me part the way through my problem but I found that when I had 3 figures in a row then a map, the next figure would jump back to #.1 again. Because I had figures, maps and tables that needed to be numbered I used the ‘levels’ to differentiate between them as you suggested, but found if you create a new number list for each entry ie. number list for maps, and number list for tables etc then they don’t conflict. thanks for the start off though. no where else pointed it out as clearly as this. If possible, open a new document to create your numbered style. Working with an existing document and all its in-use styles can be troublesome. It can be done, but changing styles that are already in use almost always has far-reaching repercussions. Admittedly, this advice isn’t always practical, but it’s the best way to start if you can.
Yes David, your comment makes sense w/r to page nums. Same should be true then for Links, yet Alice’s Adventures… has active links in DE. Mine just render as text. Perhaps it is not an eBook but rather a PDF.

The system prints the mailing name, professional title, phone number, and mailing address from the Who’s Who table (F0111) for the address number used for the contact information.
