After placing the Next Page Number character in the text box, we’re left with document numbering in word numeral 1. If we were to copy/paste this box to another page, the Next Page Number character would change into whatever the page number is where it’s placed. Huh? This isn’t what we want…

I have followed all the instructions to make my list and gave it a descriptive name (as per step two), but now I can’t actually find the list style it anywhere – the dropdown multi level list library shows all the defaults, but not my newly created list. Where am I going wrong?

When one or more copied documents have an auto-generated Document Control Number, a warning is displayed saying that new document numbers will be automatically generated for the copies of these documents, and allowing the user to proceed or cancel the copy process. A similar warning is displayed when copying a folder, drawer, etc., containing documents with auto-generated document numbers.

When automatic page numbering has been set in all the documents except Chapter 1, the page numbers will show correctly in your Book file. If you move a document within the Book file (by dragging it up or down), you’ll see that the page numbering will adjust accordingly. Remember to save your Book file after making any changes.

Select the text frame with the Selection Tool (V, Escape) and go to Edit > Copy and Edit > Paste. Manoeuvre this second text frame onto the left-hand page in a mirrored position. InDesign will provide pop-up guidelines once the text frame lines up exactly with the frame on the right-hand page. Once your happy with the positioning, select the Type Tool (T) and adjust the orientation of the text to Align Left from the Character Formatting Controls panel, as before.

1) If the file doesn’t contain the version number, once the file is away from the SharePoint repository (e.g. if you email it to a third party who can’t access SP, or if you print it out), then how does the reader know the version number?

In either case, FileHold will ensure that the document control number is unique to the document and added to the schema. When used, document control numbers are mandatory. They must be assigned to a document when the document is added and they cannot be modified after the document is stored.

Press Ctrl+V for each additional row of labels you want. You want enough rows of labels to meet your entire needs. Thus, if you need a total of 125 labels, and you can get 3 labels per line, you should end up with 42 rows of labels.

The only way to retain a Document ID within sites is to use the Site Content and Structure administrative page in Site Settings while moving documents. Note that copying by this method does not retain the Document ID.

You can add or remove consecutive page numbers for an entire publication by working from a master page. If you have multiple master pages in your publication, you need to repeat these steps for every master page you use.
