The document management software automatically assigns a unique number to every single document that is added to FileHold. This number called the FileHold ID Number, it can not be edited by users and is never duplicated in the system. This document numbering can not be turned off. This unique document number is a simple sequential number that starts at number 1 and grows sequential with every new document added to FileHold. In the case of a different version of the same document the number is incremented by a decimal number to indicate a new version. (i.e. A new document added to FileHold may get number 403. If that document is checked out and changed and than checked back in it would get the unique number 403.1. If it is checked out and changed again it would be numbered 403.2 and so forth).

17. On the Print Preview screen, click the Imposition Layout tool, and type values for the number of rows and columns on the property bar, depending on how many images horizontally and vertically you want to have on the page. In this example, there are two columns and three rows.
The fastest way to get numbers into your document is to click the Numbering button on the Formatting toolbar. This button gives you either Word’s default numbering scheme in your document (1, 2, 3) or the last numbering scheme used during this session of Word. Word’s default numbers are Arabic numerals followed by a period.
A Sequence field tracks differently numbered lists within a document. Combining Sequence fields and AutoText entries give you a fast and easy way to insert Interrogatories, Requests for Production, and Requests for Admission.
Master pages in Publisher let you change the default appearance of pages in a publication. The master pages in Publisher contain the default objects and content you want to apply as a page layout to a publication page. Pages you add to a publication receive their default formatting from the master page’s specifications. You can have several master pages in Publisher within a single publication. You can create and customize your own master pages in Publisher and then save them as custom templates for future use.
Thanks Philippa. I did find a solution: yesterday I upgraded to version 6 after a colleague using the latest version was able to get the page numbers for the book correct. An expensive way to go, though!
also the way that i print this is first as you can see saving it one by one as .jpeg and selecting 9 of the .jpeg files, right click, then print as wallet size, for it to fit in a 8.5 / 11 paper.. there..
Did the cited author ever respond to permit re-post? I would find this knowledge quite helpful, but because my corporate firewall blocks blogging domains (yes, really) I cannot reach his site — only yours.

Tony- this is so useful, thank you. I have similarly always dislikes uing 1.1, 1.2 etc too but had never thought to break away from the “rules” and try something different- but your case above has fully persuaded me. I do a lot of work where I am changing Standards of Performance for service businesses and I am sure this method will be so much easier and straightforward for everyone involved to follow.
You must make the box very wide. InDesign will automatically update page numbers when you are through and it requires that the box could fit the number 1,999, even if your page numbers will remain low.
It sounds like what should be page 63 has been defined as a section start. Does it have a triangle above it? This would be why the numbering format is different. Select that page and go into the Numbering & Section Options and deselect Start Section. This should continue your numbering.
This option is not available on the default Publisher 2010 menu ribbons. You can add it to any of the ribbons by selecting “Options” from the “File” page in “Backstage” view and selecting “Customize Ribbon” from the left pane of the “Publisher Options” dialog box.
Word’s default number alignment is Left, which presents an awkward list if the numbers reach double digits. Fortunately, you can force proper alignment — if you know where to find the correct option.
(HUN) Specify R7430040 (Print Legal Document) in the UBE field of the Legal Document / Print UBEs Relation program if you did not select the Calculate Taxes option in the Legal Document Types program.
Click the “Apply To” dropdown button to apply the currently selected master page to other pages within your publication. From the dropdown you can select the “Apply to All Pages” command to apply the selected master page to all the publication pages. Select “Apply to Current Page” to apply the master page to the currently selected publication page. You could also select the “Apply Master Page…” command to open the “Apply Master Page” dialog box. In this dialog box, you have the option to apply the currently selected master page to all, the current page, or a page range within the publication. If you select the “Pages” option, enter the page range into the adjacent text boxes. Then click the “OK” button to finish.
It is not a specific requirement of the ISO 9001 or any other standard to uniquely identify a part or a document. It is more a common-sense measure, and a worldwide practice in any documentation system, to give a document or a component a number and a title, and to identify its revision level. As documentation titles, document numbering is an area for creativity and an opportunity for optimization.
MacroView UDN replaces the Unique Numbering Provider that ships OOB with SharePoint with a custom Provider. This custom Provider can be configured to assign numbers sequentially across the whole document store. This use of a Unique Numbering Provider ensures that all documents will be assigned a MacroView UDN-style document ID, regardless of how they are saved or uploaded to SharePoint. The advantages of the MacroView UDN custom Provider are:
My heart sinks. It’s indented at 0.63, hanging at 1.27cm, no tab stop. For crying out loud! Why does it work when I’ve got the actual Normal.dotm file open, but NOT when it generates a new document BASED on Normal.dotm?
If you want numbered headings to be underlined, but do not want a line under the number, it can be difficult if you don’t know how it works. This is because by default, the format of the number follows the format of the text that follows it. For example, let’s say you want to underline a paragraph in a Heading 2 style. Chances are it will look like this:
Type the first item of a new list or select several pre-typed paragraphs. From the Home tab’s Paragraph group, click the Numbering button’s down-arrow. Pick the uppercase or lowercase Roman-numeral format to apply it on your list instantly. To set this format as the default for your document’s numbered lists, reconfigure your Numbering button. Click the Styles group down-arrow on the Home tab, followed by “Options.” Choose “Recommended” in the Select Style to Show box and click “OK.” Then, click the List Paragraph down-arrow, followed by “Modify” and “Numbering.” Select the Roman numeral format and click “OK.”
The Current Page Number is a special character inserted in a text frame on a page or master page (recommended) where the page number will appear, by selecting Type>Insert Special Character>Markers>Current Page Number. You can put as many of these special characters on a page as you’d like and they will all pick up the current page number.
JD Edwards EnterpriseOne software uses the values in the Tax Exemption Reasons UDC 74L/ER to store possible tax exemption reasons associated with the Tax Rate/Area Additional Information program (P74L4008). You can set up the UDC values as per your requirements.
In Japanese, Chinese, or Korean versions, by default, Arabic numerals are used for page numbers. However, if you use the Numbering & Section Options command, you can specify the style of numbering, such as Roman numerals, Arabic numerals, Kanji, and so on. The Style option allows you to select the number of digits in the page number, for example, 001 or 0001. Each part of the document that uses a different numbering style is called a section. For more information on sections, see Define section numbering.
Once you have finished customizing the master pages, you can then click the “Close Master Page” button in the “Close” button group on the “Master Page” tab in the Ribbon to close the master page view.
The only way to retain a Document ID within sites is to use the Site Content and Structure administrative page in Site Settings while moving documents. Note that copying by this method does not retain the Document ID.
You now have the letter “A” is placed in the text box. Only it’s not the letter “A”. This is a special placeholder character that just looks like the letter “A”. When you view the pages the A-Master is applied to, it will look correct.
While you are editing a thesis in Word, you need to number multiple headings as shown as below, maybe you will number them one by one http://ringringpromotions.org which is troublesome. Here, I introduce a quick and easy way to automatically number the multiple headings for you.
The four templates with automatic serial numbering are quite nice and one of them will most likely be suitable for your needs. You can edit them as well. If you’re going to do that, save the original template separately. Doing so will give you a fresh template, in case you need one.
